South Park Season 29 to Premier Sept 16

SP is probably my favorite show of all time, but Season 28 was the only season that I was not enthused about seeing the next episode each time it aired, and often forcing myself to watch the episodes sometimes over a week after they aired. The jokes were lazy and beaten into the ground. Here's to hoping that they course correct and move on from a serial storyline with Trump and back to the town and the boys.
And it looks like only 6 episodes are planned based on the dates below?

Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of "South Park," stopped by "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on Monday and revealed when the hit animated series will return for its new season: Sept. 16.
According to Comedy Central, new Season 29 episodes will then air every two weeks, on Sept. 30, Oct. 14, Oct. 28, Nov. 11 and Nov. 25.
Parker and Stone didn't share much about the upcoming episodes, probably because they themselves don't know yet. "South Park," which first debuted in 1997 and is going into its 29th season, is famously produced on a tight timeline, with episodes not being finished until soon before they air. In fact, Parker told Kimmel the pair won't even be going back to work on the show until "the last week of August."

It has become the new Simpsons. Guess it will never go away. Once they chose a side, they stopped being funny.

This alone should tell you what the new episodes will be like.

Kyle's mom should make a return trying to ban Jimmy Kimmel!

FWIW, though, Trey Parker could write way better, far more biting anti-Trump jokes, but he gives us repetitive, stale, unpersuasive crap instead. Are they throwing us one final bone in the midst of their sellout? Or are they just getting old and lazy in general?
Either way, in the end, all they're doing is nuking their own show.

They've had pretty lucrative contracts in the past. Of course not $1.5 billion, but they've been making hundreds of millions for over a decade, probably multiple. I don't think money is an influence on their product if it didn't seem to be an influence 10-20 years ago.

I do think they could be tiring out...obviously from the shortened seasons and needing 2 weeks to put out each episode. The trump jokes were so opposite of the edginess that the show has always been known for. It was cookie cutter late night bits.
I'm still holding out hope.

And right after their last big contract, they did stuff like the covid special wherein Garrison, as Trump, kills a doctor who's found a cure for covid because he (Trump ) wants it to last forever - 10 seconds before reminding everyone that election day 2020 was the following Tuesday.

RIP South Park. You were good for a couple of decades, great for at least a decade.
But they've chosen to abandon true comedy, and have just turned into the thing they hate - a mouthpiece.

South Park use to be one of my favorite shows. Last season was so bad. I don't know if I will even watch it now.

No bigger fan of South Park than me, but the past few seasons really have been bad. Like REALLY REALLY bad. I've never said this before, but I don't faith in them making any more good seasons again as long as they're still creating episodes. I don't expect Season 29 to be worth a frick.

Jimmy Kimmel? Jesus Christ, RIP South Park.

Yes, I commend them for keeping the quality up for as long as they did, shows rarely stay at the top of their game for as long as South Park did, but even before the lazy Trump stuff they had clearly lost a major step.
I think Trey and Matt completely lost their passion for doing the show but it was probably way too lucrative to continue. They show up and make like 6 episodes every few years, it'/s just strange, makes it hard to follow.
Even in a world post-Trump I don't see South Park ever regaining it's former glory, just simply because I don't think Matt and Trey are particularly interested in it anymore.

South Park has completely lost the magic that made it so good in the late 90s/ early-00s
The random, outlandish episode plots with no connection to each other was what made people love it. Now the show is just a shell of its former self

These are the two biggest reasons for the drop IMO.
I do still love the show and will watch as long as they put episodes out. It's one of my favorite shows of all time. But the biggest letdown for me the last 6-8 years just seems to be effort on their part to make good, funny, entertaining episodes. It all feels so low-hanging-fruit and lazy. I even enjoyed a couple of episodes last season, outside of the dumb arse Trump/Satan/tiny dick thing...they just beat that dead horse every single episode and it is just lazy and not funny. I'm down to laugh at anything...shite I hate, shite I love, agree with, disagree with, etc. I don't care, as long as it's funny. And it seems like their focus has shifted away from what is funny in recent years.
Also, six episodes is just ridiculous. Just end it already if that's all the effort you're gonna give us. I get if you're too busy; that's fine. But just end it rather than give us minimal episodes with minimal effort. Although with the amount of time between "seasons" these days, they should easily be able to churn out more than fricking six episodes.

Agree mostly. I liked most of the specials they put out during the pandemic. And the last couple seasons before 2025 were not bad. 2019, Season 23 was probably the last really good season, which featured Macho Man vs Strong Woman in "Board Girls." I can still go back to that episode over and over and am in tears laughing.

Agreed. End of obesity was hilarious, and the panderverse was mostly great too. So I had higher than usual expectations for last season, especially the teaser trailer that showed planes crashing into each other and Diddy chasing the boys.
Of course none of that made it into any of the episodes which was a shame.
Oh, and Worldwide Privacy Tour from season 26 in 2023 is an all time classic SP episode.
