What are you even talking about? The movie begins in the USA. Earl Buchanen, a guy who was arrested for possessing and transporting child pornography, is depicted in the film. His arrest wasn't as depicted in the film, but his case was in the news while the film was being made so that's probably why he was used. He was arrested while transporting a boy and child porn across the border from Mexico.

Some quotes from the linked article, which is from 2015 (the same year the script for Sound of Freedom was being written):

quote:

Buchanan's home in Bloomington, about 60 miles east of Los Angeles, was then found to have a warehouse with a bedroom and an adjoining children's room stocked with video games and DVDs of children's movies, according to an affidavit that described a search conducted last week.

"[The children's room] had bunk beds, toys, all the kinds of things that kids would like," said Michael Unzueta, special agent in charge of investigations at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in San Diego. The bedroom and children's room were wired for video coverage.

Authorities have identified between eight and 11 children who are believed to have been molested by Buchanan, both boys and girls ranging in age from 2 to 15, Unzueta said.

quote:

According to the affidavit, a 15-year-old boy told investigators that Buchanan molested him two to three times a month for the last three years at homes in Mexico, Arkansas and California.

I guess there's only one question left to ask here.

I bet not one of these people actually saw the movie or bothered to drive to a movie theater and actually confirm this.

What a strange argument. You drive to the site of every news story you read? Make sure you have the boots on the ground to know it's the truth?

This is all based on a dumb argument anyway. If it's true that the pay it forward tickets purchased by individuals have to be claimed by individuals online, and that the purchaser isn't buying those future tickets for a specific showtime at a specific theater, there's no way that's what is accounting for any (alleged) empty theaters. The empty theaters would more likely happen when the theater showing was bought out by a local church or organization for its patrons/customers, which was part of the crowd-funding Angel Studios was encouraging.

This issue is a non-issue. I can buy a ticket online for Oppenheimer. That money goes to the theater and Universal whether or not I actually show up to the theater to watch Oppenheimer. I'd bet theaters have no-shows all the time.

Saw the movie this weekend. Parts were ugly and terrible to watch. Parts were very moving in more positive senses.

I don't pretend to know what from the movie should be taken at face value. I was taken aback by the allegedly real video of the raid and congressional testimony.

I figured the last segment of the film when he went into rebel territory was fiction but the earlier footage left me more uncertain.

The two million children annually abducted into slavery is also really hard to accept without additional proof. We're just talking about a significant percentage of the children in the world (if 2M or roughly 1 in 4,000 people annually were abducted into child sex slavery). Especially when that's an allegedly annual figure and the global population skews older than it has historically.

Casually looking for references doesn't seem immediately reliable - especially when the likes of the guardian and rolling stone seem to hate it for being Q adjacent and parts of the right seem to view it as an attack on liberals (for reasons that don't appear obvious to me from the film).

Oof, one of the big funders of the movie has been arrested for child kidnapping. Also accused of hosting Sugar Baby/Sugar Daddy parties (not part of his charges, just reported and rumored).

This is my shocked face.

It's all projection.

I love that I got 3 downvotes. For something that is just a fact. I never said he was guilty. I really hate the internet and most of the people on it. Such a weird and scary place.

Good. If convicted, I hope they execute him.

ETA: What does that have to do with this film?

Turns out the guy only gave $501 to the movie, and he was arrested because he's the landlord to a woman who was in a custody battle with her aunt. He was charged for providing living arrangements to the woman and the child.

Guess those downvotes make more sense now huh BigB0882?

Then why is he charged with felony kidnapping? Are we just changing the definition of kidnapping now?

“No, your honor, I didn’t kidnap anyone. I just provided them with a different place to stay.”

Couldn't tell ya. Not familiar with the laws of every state. I'm sure you won't care either way. If the story going around turns out to be true, then I doubt it will be widely reported.

Me, I say if he's actually guilty of kidnapping then I think he should be held accountable.

But what some guy who participated in the crowdfunding does has nothing to do with this movie.

Why would you assume charge=guilt?
They charge harsh
He pleads down (most likely), or gets off completely (very possible, based on info we have)

He doesn’t even have the charge correct and the media can’t seem to agree on the charge either. He’s an accessory but you know what’s going on here so the media is embellishing and this idiot has an agenda. They also fabricated the amount he donated and that he’s “one of its big donors”. The avg donation just happens to be the exact amount they’re reporting. How likely is it that this guy donated the exact avg donation to the cent? Not very. The crowd funding raised 3.5 million in total, the budget for the film was 14.5 million which was mostly put up by angel studios and 3 producers. This story is a hit piece filled with BS.

Your numbers are wrong, though the headlines are definitely BS.

Crowdfunding raised more than $5 million, which went towards distributing the film.

Angel Studios bought the film from Disney in March 2023. They did not put up any money for actual production of this film, as they were years away from being involved.

You are correct they raised 5 million not the 3.5 I posted. My mistake.
