I see the lunatics at Q are talking about it, but no use in talking with crazy people.

Caught some of it. The opening monologue was pretty good. Michael Che and Colin Jost were actually funny and had me laughing out loud at several jokes.

But it kinda sucked after that. Barry won almost every award it was nominated for. While it was an entertaining show I had actually seen, I don’t know if it deserves that much praise. Comes across as self-indulgent to me that a show about acting and Hollywood always has a good chance of winning awards.

Sometimes I start threads for awards shows that nobody here cares about, but was preoccupied with BCS last night. Also watching Scorsese on TCM.

Notes:

Colin Jost and Michael Che were funnier than expected. Having Che there gave them a lot of options for race humor.

The losers were ridiculously pissed off in almost every category. Very few attempts to fake a smile or excitement for the winners.

They made a big deal about diversity in nominations, but the big winners were the all white shows. You could sense the unease in the room.

I love Fred Armisen but they could've done without his bits with Maya Rudolph.

Highpoints:
-Donald Glover showing up dressed as Teddy Perkins. If he had won it would've been amazing.
-The Oscar Director using his speech to propose. The audience was human for a moment or two. It was really sweet to see that go down.
-The Reparation Emmy presentations. That was damn funny. Best bit of the evening.

Double Digit Ratings Decline

quote:

here’s a couple of telling stats: last night’s Emmy awards peaked in the 8:45 – 9 PM ET time slot with a 7.8 metered market rating while last night’s MNF peaked in the 9:30-9:45 PM ET period with a 9.1 result. That means, long before the big categories like Outstanding Drama, Outstanding Comedy and Outstanding Limited Series had been announced, viewers were clicking off and tuning out the Emmys – not a winning strategy.

How Kerri Russell didn’t when an Emmy in 6 seasons of the Americans is beyond me.

Loved seeing the Barry love.

They better have Ricky on for the Golden Globes. It was cowardly for them to go with Seth Meyers over him last year considering Ricky has been calling them rapists and pedophiles openly for years. I won’t be watching unless he’s hosting, and I bet a large portion of America is with me.

I don't think that a large portion of America gives a shite about Ricky Gervais. They could've had Gervais and Farva calling everyone chicken frickers last night and the same audience would've tuned in.

If the ratings go down for the Golden Globes it'll be for the sames reasons for the decline in the audiences of the Oscars, Emmy Awards, and Grammy Awards. It won't be because Ricky Gervais wasn't there.

And it was great to see Winkler finally win an Emmy. He's amazing on Barry.

I would have tuned in if it were Gervais.

The reason the ratings are down is that no one wants to be preached at by the people who defended Harvey Weinstein and Dan Schneider for years. I will tune in for them to be gloriously shite on though.

Didn't watch it, but I heard Betty White is apparently starting to fade.

It was painful to watch. We had to fast forward through her speech. God bless her.

If this was already discussed, my apologies. Why was it on Monday night instead of Sunday night? NFL games are on both nights so that is obviously not it.

They'd be better served to have the Emmys before football starts, to be honest.

It was on NBC, so they couldn't do it on Sunday night when they have football. It's not a ratings monster. No harm in burning it off on a Monday night.
