You are 100% correct. However, if you watch the film you will see that Nolan's interpretation of the story is a little different. For one, the film is very much aware that Lupita Nyong'o's Helen of Troy is not as attractive as we think she should be.
Tom Holland's Telemachus visits the court of Menelaus at Sparta. While feasting with him, Menelaus introduces Telemachus to Helen. He clearly has mixed emotions about her, given what she did, but he definitely thinks the tales of her beauty are indeed overrated as he sarcastically introduces her as the "face that launched a thousand ships."
He then mocks her even further by showing off the left side of her face (which is now disfigured) by saying: "Now, it probably wouldn't launch five hundred."
You can agree or disagree with his interpretation of Helen but the casting of Lupita Nyong'o was deliberate because she isn't beautiful in the classical sense.

The second part of the problem is the people who make excuses for it and/or accept it and then suddenly wake up in the future one day wondering how things got so far that their daughter is losing her 4th track meet in a row to some boy with a fake inverted penis vagina.

Companies have for years reacted to small minorities, aka the LGBTQ crowd, and they got away with it because people were so passive about it while the LGBTQ were so vocal.
Then Target learned a lesson and set an example for many other businesses not to follow, and things have reverted back a lot the past few years.
To think that can't happen to Hollywood is pretty dumb.
People just want to be entertained, which is why Maverick has done so well. No political messaging, no girls pretending to be boys, no gay messaging, no race-swapping old characters, etc.
I just want to watch a good movie or show. No dumb shite and no horrible casting choices because Hollywood is shoving some messaging front and center.
The same thing has happened in the video game industry and it is reeling as a result.
Odyssey will set records and bail Hollywood out this year so they won't change but then they will still wonder why other movies lose millions when they cast a Latino progressive as Snow White.

Sco Jo was eviscerated for "whitewashing" in Ghost in the Shell, and that pretty much ended it from ever happening where white people get cast in a role where the story was originally a minority.
Have you seen any white people replace known black roles in Black Panther movies? It's just a story, after all.

There are hundreds of versions of the Odyssey, none of them are the same.
The only tragedy with this film is that grifters weren't gonna let the biggest film of the year happen without trying to make a buck off it. So they spun a narrative that Lupita was portraying the greatest beauty that ever lived and Page was portraying the greatest warrior that ever lived (neither turned out to be true) and their followers ate it up rather than just letting Nolan do his thing.
Those same people always clamor for the studios to leave directors alone and get out of the way.
