He's always been a shitty writer as far as I can remember.
Yeah, thus far, the only gem in his filmography is The Leftovers on HBO. The rest of it? Lost? Cowboys and Aliens? Prometheus? Star Trek: Into Lameness? Just awful.

Wait I was told in the Netflix thread I'm only seeing a political angle because I'm choosing to.
You were getting shite on because you used a "I need another streaming service" thread to do your constant political bitching.

The film version of Dr. Manhattan is probably my favorite portrayal of a superhero ever. His complexity and total control of all things is what really reeled me in while watching Watchmen. It set the bar very high IMO.
I loved that character, but I swear I was on edge the entire movie.
"Are they going to show it again?"

This bullshite is why we can't escape politics in movies, because one side has an obvious and often stated goal of injecting their side into them.

Regardless of how you feel, I don’t see how this makes money sense for a studio? Why finance this? Where has this succeeded?

Why can't they just start w/the 1940s Watchmen? They'd be able to touch on LGBTQ issues, misogyny, and racism w/that and it would be something that could stay close enough to the source material w/o forcing complete retelling of the story in the movie.

Because then you couldn’t subtly attack Reagan and Thatcher and by extension America.
Didn’t you read the excerpt?

But you could use the clashes between fascist and communist factions in America at the time to draw parallels.
Battlestar Galactica was able to comment on the Iraq war via the Cylon war and even had episodes from the perspective of suicide bombers.

Battle star galactica was out to tell a relatable story.
Not shovel a perspective down people’s throats.
The short version to your question is that they could....but story telling isn’t the apparent primary focus of the writers. Telling a story from a certain angle is, and if it is good so much the better.

TD fricking up ate my reply yesterday.
You're melting over a not Watchmen spinoff that WB is only jumping on after DC started milking a dry udder with Before Watchmen and Doomsday Clock.
On top of that the cast in the source is made of gays, bisexuals, cuck fetishists, a rapist, kink fetishists, and an asexual.
And that's not even getting into their personality disorders. The only normal person was Hollis Mason.

Oh, for frick's sake.
ETA: This is the kind of identity political nonsense that is sinking Marvel Comics. Not the movie universe, but the actual source material. Other than a vocal minority of mentally ill, most people don't care about this kind of shite. They don't want to be reminded of it All The fricking Time.
Just stay true to the source material, and make a great series. That's it. I don't care about the LFBTARDARQ community. I honestly don't.
