bullshite they weren’t. Every boy in the world should have been begging their parents to see a Buzz Lightyear movie and most parents grew up with Buzz and with Pixar and had pleasant memories of it, so that should have been a smash success. It should have been for boys what Frozen is to girls.

Sonic 2 doubled Lightyear’s gross. Minions tripled it, which many parents find as annoying as nails on a chalkboard. The Bad Guys even outgrossed Lightyear. I’m supposed to believe that the Bad Guys should have outgrossed Lightyear? Get the frick out of here.

You could believe that Lightyear had a litany of issues, including a boring premise and marketing materials, that affected its gross instead of it failing due to the internet controversy barely anybody knew about, and which was revealed to be overblown nonsense to the people who had heard about it.

Buzz Lightyear is the most popular animated character created in the past 30 years. There’s no way it should have grossed anything less than half a billion and even that would be a miserable failure. Sorry, your Woke fricking bullshite isn’t selling anymore. We’re sick of your fricking lies and we aren’t putting up with it anymore.

We both know that if Frozen 3 bombs and somehow Elsa being a lesbian is a part of the plot that you’ll blame it for the marketing or people being pieces of shite.

I think part of this was Peter Dinklage. He came out ranting about the hiring of little people for certain parts or something. I think the 7 DEI hobos was a middle finger to him.

So yeah...just take liberties with the whole origin. Disney is just trolling us now.

How many black peasants were in Germany in the 16th century? But Disney found one to tell Snow White to go hide in the woods.

Its pretty funny that you spotted a black person and chose to complain about that by asking how many existed in the 1500s in a country that didn't exist until 1871.

Wicked and this movie are not alike. I don't care for it but the Wicked musical was very popular. Meanwhile no one asked for yet another live action take. In addition this movie has gathered quite a bit of controversy. Not just from the lead actress, but also from going away from actual dwarf actors to super diverse (but mostly not dwarf ) ones to horrible CGI. I don't know how much of an impact all the controversy will have, but it'll only hurt not help.

This board and reddit won't agree on much, but even the MTV subreddit widely agrees this movie is going to flop hard. No one is really excited for it unlike Wicked.

Not to interrupt yalls argument but you know this isn't true. It was shortly after the "don't say gay" stuff and they were back tracking on that and when it was revealed they were doing a same sex kiss it basically went viral. Every news outlet was covering it.

I agree the marketing was bad as well but the backlash from the gay stuff in a kids movie had a much bigger negative impact than bad marketing. You're being purposefully obtuse if you try to say otherwise.

I agree it should have done half a billion. But he's not the most popular animated character of the past 30 years. He wasn't even the most popular character in the franchise he starred in. A Woody spinoff would have done better. Woody, The Iron Giant, Wall-E off the top of my head. You could make a case that Puss in Boots and Dory were better as well seeing as they actually had successful spinoffs.

Ummmm, no. Who has the television series (not counting the series in Toy Story 2)? It’s Buzz. Who’s sold more toys than Micky Mouse? It’s Buzz. Who is in a lot of pop songs and been to fricking space? It’s Buzz. Everyone knows Buzz Lightyear’s catchphrase.

The Iron Giant

I’m an avid DVD collector, and since I started collecting them, I’ve never once seen the Iron Giant on display on a Wal-Mart, Target, or Best Buy shelf. So no.

quote:

Wall-E

Wall-E might be the most charming of Pixar characters, but no. Wall-E is a character the adults more enjoy than the kids.

Dory was more of a sequel than a spin off and Puss in Boots was actually good. So no.

I'm not trying to argue that Buzz Lightyear isn't a popular character and hasn't sold a ton of toys. Off the top of my head he was minimum top 5. But are you trying to say that Woody does not have a catchphrase? Everyone knows what Woody says when you pull his drawstring.

Yea now you're just twisting things. It's a spinoff, Stop.

So are we only talking about popular characters for kids? Because why are we even talking about this if it only applies to kids.

So the movie being good discredits it from being popular? I don't get it.

Just decided to google some lists in case I was forgetting some characters.

Googled "most popular animated movie characters of all time" to see some lists. All from the first page.

Screen rant

Those are the first two articles that popped up. Never seen Gromit but this has literally every one I listed ahead of Buzz So it's not some crazy logic. And I'm not using it to try and prove a point versus a woke person.

Very, very different situation here. Target audience is very different, Ariana Grande has legitimate star power, and it's new.

People are already worn out from the Disney live actions and the controversies around Snow White have been going on relatively non-stop since it was announced.

Oh wow, one poll (and targeted to adults at that) disproves all the sales figures, television shows, amusement park rides, and the fact that they even attempted to give Buzz his own movie.

And for the record, I do think that Woody is the better and more nuanced character than Buzz and a bit more human. Woody is kind of a fricking dick, but in the end he’s a good person that always comes around. Buzz is the cheerful optimist that almost nothing can get him down.

Yeah people know “There’s a snake in my boot” too, but it’s not as iconic as Buzz’s, if only for this scene (which Woody says the catchphrase):

quote:

Yea now you're just twisting things. It's a spinoff, Stop.

Nah, it’s an outright sequel. Kind of like saying the Incredibles 2 was spinoff because it focused more on Elastigirl than Mr Incredible this time.

quote:

Gromit it’s absurd to have ahead of Buzz or Woody.
