She was pretty blah and led to SNL’s decline in the early to mid 00’s. She was obviously more suited for sitcoms - 30 Rock was solid.

The Norm McDonald Unabomber skit is a favorite of mine and feels appropriate today.

On the others . . . hard to top Eddie Murphy as best cast member all-time. Maybe Will Ferrell or Dana Carvey second.

My favorite musical performance all time on the show was by Leon Redbone.

Cast Member - Phil Hartman
Weekend Update Anchor - This is a tough one, Norm McDonald, Chevy Chase and Dennis Miller are all strong choices.
Writer (Might have to base it off their on camera work unless you know which sketches are written by whom) - Conan is a good choice
Host (one-or-two-timer): Dave Chappelle
Host (Several episodes) - Christopher Walken
Musical Guest - No idea on this, musical guests were always down the list for me.
Skit - Dick In A Box
Skit series - Another tough one. Mr. Robertson's Neighborhood, Point/Counter-Point, Mr. Subliminal, The McLaughlin Group, the NPR gals, etc. I think the winner for consistently funny while holdinig up well over time is going to have to go to Celebrity Jeapordy.

This thread always goes to prove my theory that Kevin Nealon is criminally underrated as the Weekend Update host. IMO he was the best by a mile.

I wouldn't say by a mile but Miller, McDonald, and Nealon are easily the top three. He had a unique take too. Miller and McDonald were snarky a-holes; Nealon played it as a clueless idiot and it worked.

So many responses and so few from back in the day of the originals. Of course, so many here were not even born then.

Cast Member - I can't choose. I love Eddie Murphy, John Belushi, and Chevy Chase so much!
Weekend Update Anchor - Jane Curtin and Chevy Chase with appearances by John Belushi and Gilda Radnor (can't believe Roseanne Roseannadanna hasn't been mentioned yet!) Oh, and also Emily Litella (never mind, bitch!)
Writer - I really hadn't paid attention to who wrote stuff
Host - (one or two timer) - Richard Pryor
Host - Christopher Walken
Musical Guest - Does the Blues Brothers count? Soul Man?
Skit - Eddie Murphy Celebrity Hot Tub, Also Word Association with Richard Pryor and Chevy Chase, and The Last Voyage of the Starship Enterprise
Skit series - Samurai one with John Belushi

There you go, old arse SNL viewers.

I always hated Norm on WU. Of course, I never liked him until recent years where I've gained appreciation for what he did. My biggest issue with him on WU was that he made fun of it and never took it seriously (which I understand is why people liked him in that role).

But I don't think Nealon played a clueless idiot more than he basically always played it straight up/straight man. It really worked that he acted like he was actually giving you the news. He was also so great at deadpan comedy, which worked really well with something like WU.

It was! Pre-VHS / DVR, we used to rush home Saturday nights to watch it. Started at 11:30pm. Was a big thing back then.

My favorite skits were either Steve Martin's King Tut or Eddie Murphie's Celebrity Hot Tub Party! Remember virtually crying during both I was laughing so hard.

My favorite cast member, and there were many, had to be Dana Carvey. His Church Lady videos, Ross Perot imitations, were amazing.

The only one I want to answer is Dan Aykroyd for my favorite. The guy may be the best at all time of presenting monologues.

he made a living off making monologues like "jane you ignornat slut". Idk I just think he is severely underrated, belushi was star talent but Dan made everyone better

Consumer Probe: Irwin Mainway kills me every freaking time. By far my favorite “classic” skit.
