Are you really trying to tell me Carell played any significant part in the box office of that movie? He played an insignificant retard and was completely irrelevant.
Nah,he gets NO CREDIT for Anchorman were as Helms was one of the leads in the Hangover I and II

If you want to include a Children's sitcom, then I think Victorious would certainly count.
Ariana Grande got her start as a supporting character on there, and obviously she is a certified pop superstar now. The main character, Tori Vega(I had to Google her name), I'm unsure if she has even done anything notable since the show went off air.
Then again Ariana is a singer who already quit acting, so that may make her disqualified for this threads criteria.
The same could go for Drake, who played on Degrassi as a teenager. His level of success blew all his former castmates out of the water, but he also quit acting post Degrassi.
Another one I just came up with was Janet Jackson, who played on Good Times as a child. But if course, her superstardom came through music. I think I'm struggling with this thread subject, all I can think of are musicians

Bradley Cooper supported the lead Jennifer Garner in Alias, and has since had a far more successful career.
ETA: Not a sitcom, though.

How I Met Your Mother. Everyone did more significant work outside the show than the guy who played Ted. I don't even know the actor's name.
Cobie has certainly made a killing as Mariah Hill. Gonna be making that MCU cash for several more years.

Doesn’t quite meet original criteria (sketch show) but Jim Carrey and Jamie Fox both had a far greater career then any member of the Wayans family for “In Living Color” which was their baby.

Cartoons?
You keep referring to the Despicable Me series as just "cartoons". Any reason you're lumping box office hits with cheap crop you used to see at 6 AM as a kid?

By this logic Chris Pratt would be the best example of a supporting cast member having a bigger career than the lead (Amy Poehler). GotG, Jurassic World, Lego movies. However, pretty much all of this happened while Parks & Rec was on the air.
The in show explanation as to how Andy got jacked over the summer is one of my favorite little moments on the show.

Tom Cruise in Top Gun... you mean an actor playing a part with multiple other actors? I guess you think he had nothing to do with the success of that movie.
... You know he got top billing in those movies, and was the only one billed for the first one, right?

This may be the easy to overlook winner.

Enrico Colantoni - Hope & Gloria
Ended up playing Elliot DiMauro on JustShootMe!
Brittany Murphy - Drexell's Class as well as Almost Home
Paul Rudd - Friends (if making it into 17 episodes counts)

Are you really comparing Tom Cruise in top
gun to actors who do voice overs in cartoons?

I'm comparing top billing in a motion picture to top billing in a motion picture.

Brick was my favorite character in Anchorman and is one of the funniest characters in the whole movie. You do not get an invitation to the pants party.

He has top billing and is the main character by far and away. The movie made half a billion dollars. Your metrics for success are weird.
I guess you got nothing for the movie where he got a best actor golden globe nod. I'm sure Ed Helms has a treasure trove of those....
