they sure do know how to end every episode on a cliffhanger.
I assume the next episode will end with the Kyle guy entering the tunnel and getting to Juliette's silo and the season will end right when they discover each other, leaving a giant cliffhanger.
Never read the books but I do think the tunnels connect all of the silos. But unless the pump she fixed is working extra I assume opening the door somehow would flood the tunnels.
The reason the one silo is flooded is someone already tried or told others which they were supposed to as he was directed which is basically a failsafe to keep people from know they are connected.
I was waiting for her to turn on the computer screen and somehow connect to her silo.

It does make me wonder. the tunnel the other characters found in the earlier episodes, is that related to the one the shadow went to?
If you’re referring to the passageway at the bottom of mechanical, I think it leads to the big open area where Lucas climbs down the rope to the tunnel. I vaguely recall George bringing Juliette through that passageway to get to the big open area in season 1.
The way I interpret it is that there are some pathways in the depths of mechanical, almost like catacombs, where various groups have hidden or met in secret over the years. I think this is where the group from mechanical met to discuss their fledgling “rebellion” early in season 2, and I think it’s also where the sheriff found the guy with the gunshot wound.
I believe George (or someone he knew) found the entrance to the big cavern while exploring down there. I haven’t read the books so might be misinterpreting slightly.

Considering the Silo Juliette is in is flooded, it wouldn’t be good for Kyle to open that door.

Good point. Overall this was a pretty good episode.
If the voice at the end was some type of computer program, how would it be up to date?

Picked up Apple again and am enjoying S2 of Silo. So far, if we're getting that there are 50 + 1 known Silos, that does make for some fascinating scenarios going forward.
100% of what I am following with this story is from the TV show, don't know the source material at all. But this is working for me.

Would really be best for them to tell the entire story and not just the first book. At the rate they are going, no way that happens in 4 seasons.
I swear they do this with any good book or series. Man In The High Castle was a great example. Not a long story by any means. They just drug it on and on and it was just too boring to watch.
Apple’s Dark Matter was an example of how to do it right. Even if they came back with more seasons, they got the main story told in a good one season time span. Anything after is just their sequels and that is fine.
Silo is giving us about two good episodes a season. The rest is boring, unneeded filler with bad acting. It’s just sad.

The 50+1 thing between the mayor and Kyle seemed pointed, and with the voice in the tunnel, I bet this is the entrance to the 1.

I really liked that scene, wasn't expecting any sort of communication or anything before opening the door.
My thought is that the 51st silo has to be some sort of tech hub, possibly AI powered... or...
Let's call the 50 silos a hub and the intent was always for each silo to be independent, with the creators thinking that as long as each silo thought itself as the only one there would be no desire to reach out to contact the other silos (since they wouldn't know the other silos even exist).
Monitoring the hub would be the job of the 51st silo, it's primary purpose being to maintain some level of population control so a silo didn't become over-populated (see: Billings' "condition," selective pregnancy allowance, etc). The possibility of an event like what happened in Silo 17 could be considered too big of an event for 51 to interfere with (or perhaps considered an acceptable loss as long as too many others didn't meet that same fate).
The 51st hubs would therefore be in collaboration monitoring the health of the overall system. We've seen how the secret areas where the IT head managed things is markedly more advanced than the rest of the silo, so it would follow the theme if the 51st silos were all markedly more advanced than the other 50 (and then, possibly, those who communicate with the other 51st silos have access to even greater technology).
Can't wait for the season finale next week, I hope we get at least a little more from Lukas' story and they don't just leave him entering the next area until next season.

Fantastic episode with very little of Common’s “acting”
Definitely reading the books after this series is completed.
Side question: does anyone else have to close all of the blinds in the house in order to watch the series properly?

I hope we find out why the pact says mechanical is always the reason for rebellions.

I finished E9 this morning. Y'all said it was good.
It was better, shite happened.
I liked it. I'll chime in later on some thoughts.
However, I'm so annoyed that 50% of S2 is just filler that will never be talked about again.
Imagine having to fill 26/season compared to 8-/10 season.

The impression I got with the voice in the tunnel was that it was AI and not human. It all kicked in all at once, with the lights and all, like a sensor had been triggered. We'll see.

E9 was the best yet
i think "the safeguard" is that "they" will flood it

Did each state plus the District of Columbia get a silo, or was the 51st silo for our 51st state, Canada?

I didn't even think like that, as they appeared to all be in one area. Would make far more sense to spread them out, right?

what if AYE EYE wiped out humanity and the silos are a lab test

Yeah, don't know the source material. Changers for the screen version could be all over the place.

same and i am glad no spoilers are allowed here
fun to guess these things
once again i highly recommend this show

They may have had to build them all in one area with the tunneling equipment they had, but each state got to send their own group to populate each silo. Each state would then get to chose how they selected which citizens to send. I don't know anything, just rampant speculation during a not so great football game. Though that Stingley interception was good.
