It was a solid movie, I'd say mid to upper-mid level in the MCU. The bus scene was fantastic, I do wish they stuck with that vibe a bit more as the movie went on.
My wife is Chinese-American and loved it. Normally she has a fun time when I drag her to an MCU movie, but it's not a big deal to her. She couldn't (still hasn't) stopped talking about this one. If she finds out it's dropping on D+, I'm sure I'll be watching it again at some point this weekend.

I watched a couple episodes. It just seemed like it was trying way too hard. One episode was the one where she was angry one of her parents was dating so she acted like a crazy person.

I really enjoyed it. Here are some random non-spoiler thoughts:
-Better than Black Widow. In that Ant-Man level of MCU origin story for me.
-That fantastic bus scene was straight out of a Jackie Chan movie. Choreography-wise, it might be my favorite MCU fight scene.
-The lead was solid/likable, but I found he lacked the personality/charisma that other past MCU leads stood out with.
-I had never seen anything with Awkwafina before, but she's funny. Also, her voice sounds almost identical to Miley Cyrus, which added some subconscious sex appeal for me.
-There were at least a handful of unexpected MCU cameos and I enjoyed them all.
Agreed.
And after recently watching/re-watching masterful SFX blockbusters like Dune, Blade Runner 2049, Mad Max Fury Road, and Rogue One, (all of which used mostly practical effects with seamless other-worldly CGI), I'm just realizing Marvel's greatest strength is their consistent likable characters, and not their Grand Buffet of computer generated special effects. The CGI almost comes across as cartoonish in comparison to those other movies I listed.

I haven't watched it yet, but this was a concern of mine once I watched Kim's Convenience. The actor has very little screen presence.

well the character has specifically tried to stay out of the limelight his entire life, so it's not a huge stretch. very much a reluctant hero type.

Definitely worth a watch to any that haven’t seen it. One of my biggest surprise hits of the year only bc I didn’t really know the character.
It includes one of the better villains and perhaps the best fight choreography in the entire MCU, which starts right from the beginning.

The fight scene was probably my favorite fight choreography of the entire MCU. It was that well done, imo.
The movie overall was still good, but it's mid-tier Marvel.
SN: For those who already saw the movie. Am I crazy in thinking Shang-chi, even without the rings, can beat Cap.

Much like Cap has super serum, Shang Chi has his mother’s Ta Lo hometown power in him. It’s be a good fight for sure.

I feel like he would be excellent at dodging Cap’s attacks, but would struggle to land a knock out punch due to Cap’s extraordinary strength and resolve.

No thanks to the Dwayne movie.
I just watched The Jungle Cruise. It was a fun movie.

I did, too. Very entertaining. I'm pleasantly surprised.
An Amazon River adventure/treasure-hunt/romantic-comedy that's in the vein of The Mummy or National Treasure.
Has a great cast, too. Emily Blunt, The Rock, Paul Giamatti, and even Todd from Breaking Bad as the villain.

Spoiler ish comments:
Thought it was pretty good.
In the skyscraper scene, they basically gave the main guy Spider-Man skills.
I thought they got a little lazy with the story telling for the last third. Generic cgi action flick for the final fights.
But like someone else said, they crushed it with the bus scene.

I agree. I was absolutely loving Shang Chi up until a few minutes after the skyscraper fight sequence. The second half of the movie was competent, but the first half was almost as much fun for me as Winter Soldier or Guardians of the Galaxy.

I think what I didn’t like about the second half of the movie is it copped out and went to some other weird dimension or something.
This made the stakes feel lower, like the earth was spared this battle.

Pretty happy with this film. Thought I would like it less. I was not a fan of Awkwafina, but she didn't ruin the movie.
MILD SPOILERS
I'm not sure why Awkwafina's character was included in the stinger at the end. She seemed out of place and doesn't have anything to offer in a superhero team setting.

I think that Marvel has desensitized me to high stakes world-ending events, so I gravitate towards smaller, more grounded and relatable stories.
I was fine with this search for a fantastic land, but the battle at the end seemed so unnecessary and almost compulsory. Like, it was only in the plot because it was required for a Marvel movie.
I guess I just would have preferred something a little more personal, small scale, and grounded.

The Loki Finale is proof that just an hour long exposition filled conversation can be just as awesome as a world ending battle.
Although I would be a fool to think that they would actually put that in a theatrical released Marvel film.
I think this is why I liked Eternals, the conversations between the characters was much better than any action they were going to be in. The Eternals reason for being on Earth and their journey to discover why Is some of the smartest Marvel stuff in a while.

The last battle was straight up a Final Fantasy Aeon battle. The giant Soul Eater even looked a little like Anima from FFX.

Watched it on D+ this morning. Liked it. Marvel does best when their villains are somewhat relatable.
