No. It was definitely purposeful. The manager even said something like 'you remind me of a younger me".

Which goes to Lumon's floors representing the 9 circles of Hell.

We know there are more than 7 floors, as the elevator in the dark hallway has a down arrow.

I really have no idea where they are going with what MDR is doing. It could go a lot of places. The easiest is cloning, but this show doesn't seem to want the easy way, so I'm not bought it on clones just yet.

One of the popular theories that makes sense is that the Eagan's have been using something similar to cryogenic freezing. And that MDR is part of the process of bringing them back to life.

Cold Harbor then could be a direct reference to Gemma. If you look closely you can see a car floating in water in the new intro. So the theory is that Gemma could have been found in freezing water and that enabled Lumon to recover her body and bring her back from the dead.

Skip to :45 if the video doesn't start there, the car is on the right side of the screen.

I watched the first and then have skipped all the others.

Did anyone take anything away from the manager at the door factory looking just like Dylan. They even purposely showed a shot of them in opposing positions leaned back in their chars to emphasize the similarities. Just me?

I just took it as comic relief. Like Dylan is clearly a perfect fit for this job and is very similar to the manager yet they still wouldn't hire him because of being severed.

I've always skipped too because I thought it was the same for the whole season. I know Game of Thrones used to make subtle changes that I always missed.

The elevator scene was a teaser without being conclusive.

Somebody made a 2 minute video on Reddit about the elevator dings. It's...interesting.

Just got caught up last night and here are a couple of my own hypotheses that I didn't see after reading through:

• Similar to Gemma/Ms. Casey, Irving appears to have gone to the testing floor since that's the elevator he's been painting. When Irving is trying to leave and Dylan is summoned by Milkshake, I think Irving (left alone) was scooped up and taken back to be reprogrammed, which is why he appears later, suddenly ready to stay on and continue working. This would also fit with him being so concerned with "the rules" on the inside, while his outie is more rebellious — he's probably been reprogrammed multiple times to do so.

• Regarding the elevator descent, what if the innie effects actually are subject to time, and the bell represents the start of a countdown? When Helly and Dylan were in the breakroom, they heard voices and a baby crying, as if their outside world was bleeding through (Irv also sees the black paint). Milkshake looks at the clock and tells her they will resume her apologies tomorrow, which they do. If the innies' severance only lasts for a finite amount of time, that may also be why it's called the overtime protocol (after so many hours), and it could be a future plot point — if the innies can stay down in the bowels of Lumon for long enough without leaving, they will re-join their outies and "wake up" down there.

What do you think?

I thought Helly just asked if they had heard the crying baby that she heard while in the Break Room?

And I always assumed it was the baby goats we see in episode when Mark and her are on their wellness walk away from Ms Casey.

When she was repeating the phrase 1,000 times, at some point she asked Milkshake what those voices were, and later when she was recounting the experience to Dylan she mentioned it, and he said something like, "Yeah, that baby crying?"

So I think they were hearing something unique, and since her outie was around people and he has a family, I just assumed it was somehow their individual memories coming back.

Regarding the testing room, I was wondering if putting Ms. Casey and Mark together with the candle was a way to see if this bleed-through occurred, and if so, she or he would be reprogrammed (like Irv) until it didn't.

So many questions in the series... The biggest for me is why did Cobel leave the book for Mark to find.

As buttoned up as things are, why would she bring the book onto the severance floor and then leave it in an open conference room?

Unless she brought it in and someone else found it and planted it for Mark, but why wouldn't they just put it in his desk

It was an accident. Milkshake was reading it in the conference room when something happened. He dropped it and ran to address the situation. The innies then found it in the chair.

How did I miss that. I'll have to go back and re-watch.

But again, why even bring it down to the floor or have it in an open space like that.

This fits but in a different way. Remember Inception and ask yourself why there can only be a one-step severance procedure. At the top level of what we have seen so far the story is set in Kier, PE a fake state. What if a person's mind could be further compartmentalized, i.e. severed multiple times. What if above the "top level" we are shown another, more realistic, level and find out all of the characters are severed multiple times the further down you go? A great show with lots of cool possibilities.

Agree, just hope they don’t throw too many cool and mysterious things out there like LOST that go by the wayside and are never tied in or explained.

That’s a crazy idea wow that would be interesting.

I think there is something to the transferring of consciousness. Trying to bring Kier back to life in someone else’s body? Or maybe he already figured it out and he is back in Helena’s dad. Still not sure why that would make Mark so important though

We all agree it’s Helena on the Severed floor and not Helly R?

Ah yes. Something is off about him. Think back to Season 1 when he was in the break room with Helly R. Seemed completely unaffected by being in there for hours and hours. Might not be severed but more like whatever Gemma is.
