Or watch this just as you are about to go to sleep... LINK
It freaks me out just posting this; damn the Discovery channel and the night this came on the TV.
To this day, maybe the scariest thing I've ever watched.

I've never really seen a movie that was truly "scary" enough to suspend my disbelief and cause me to experience real fear. Sure, there are scenes in movies that creeped me out, and the cheap startling/shock value moments, but I've just never understood how anyone could become truly afraid during a movie storyline, something that's clearly not a part of the real world
I suppose I can understand a bit more if it's something that could realistically happen, but even then, it's still a movie...
I'm just not much of a fan of the horror genre in general, most of them come off as cheesy, predictable, or simply boring to me. Paranormal Activity has to be one of the worst, most cliched films I've ever seen and it pisses me off that so many people actually paid to see that crap and call it the scariest thing ever. I do enjoy a few classics like Nightmare on Elm Street though, if only for the campiness

I remember watching it for the first time and being too scared to move, I was probably 8 or nine. I love it now and may be my favorite movie ever.
Came out when I was in HS. We had to sneak into the theater and it creeped the hell out of me. Not so much scared as creeped.

To this day I HATE clowns all because of that fricking puppet in Poltergeist. That clown puppet gave me nightmares and I've never looked at clowns the same way since.

I'm a huge pussy, so anything with ghosts or creepy kids scares the frick out of me.
The Ring
Paranormal Activity
IT
Poltergeist
etc
All freak me out
Movies like Jaws, Halloween, The Strangers don't really affect me any.

I hated scary movies as a kid...they freaked me the frick out. Silver Bullet fricked me up as a kid. But I love them now.
It's maybe not the "scariest" per se, but the movie that fricked me (and most of America) up the most was Jaws. I used to be swimming in a swimming pool at night and all of a sudden start freaking out thinking something was gonna get me.

Never really got scared because I didn't get to watch scary movies until I was older. The Cell and The Descent were crazy movies though. I made my friend watch The Cell with me back in high school and he still talks about it. lol

Pet Cemetary. But it was not the dead pets that scared me. It was the sister with the twisted up back that freaked me out for a LONG time.
i had the same reaction.
The Grudge is the only movie that actually creeped me out recently. though its really just a couple of scenes that got me.
also, just curious, how many people refuse to watch scary movies during the day. if i am watching for the first time i usually wait til around midnight and turn off all the lights.

Scared the shite out of me. The fact that it was based on a true story and they never caught the guy made it even scarier to me.
Same here I remember being about 9, and it scared the shite out of me also.
I haven't seen it in years. I bet it's pretty lame by today's standards now. lol

HECK NO! I can only watch scary movies when it's light outside. And if I go to a movie theater, for a scary movie, i would have to sit at the very back.

I like all the screams, Urban Legends and I know what you did last summer.

I watched I Know What You Did Last Summer the other night and it holds up really well.

The second one was a little more far fetched, but I did like it as well.

If anyone was around at the time, probably was Jaws. All of the kids were scared to swim in a damn swimming pool, including me. We did, but it was in the back of your mind...
not to even mention surf fishing Grand Isle..

Salem's Lot was definitely the scariest movie I saw as a kid. The Exorcist & The Omen were great. Sequels are never as good as the originals, but I thought Exorcist III was an outstanding continuation of the storyline & just as creepy.
