Usually there’s at least 15 min of previews before the movie actually starts. I remember when I went to see dr strange the show time was at 7 and I remember looking at my watch when the movie started and it was 7:35.

What happened the first 15 or so min? The first thing I saw was Tom cruise going really fast in a futuristic looking plane

That's the beginning of the movie. The movie starts with Tom getting on his chopper and driving to the testing grounds to fly the futuristic plane. Then, he finds out that a high ranking officer will be coming the next day to shut down the program, so he tells everyone that instead of testing the planned benchmark speed, they were going to test it to the final speed the project was meant to reach. Maverick pushes beyond even that, trying to push the plane even faster, and the plane breaks up.

The only important thing in the first few minutes was how Rooster was really Maverick’s son, and Goose never found out.

Some corrections:

Kawasaki Ninja (not a chopper; it's a crotch rocket).

He finds out the admiral is coming to shut them down personally; and he looks around and says "he's not here yet, is he? Let's go now". They tell him that would frick his career, but he says it would save THEIR (the other guys) jobs.

The admiral was going to justify shutting the program down, by stating the purpose was to develop a Mach 10 jet. And they had failed to meet that threshold.
The program's itinerary was to reach Mach 9 that day, building (safely, more controlled with more tests) to a Mach 10 flight in another month or so.

Maverick said frick it, I will do Mach 10 today... which means the program has met it's objective and thus will be continued (they keep their jobs). He knew and accepted that he would suffer the fallout, as well as risk his life going beyond the scheduled test limits.

And then after achieving the goal, he had a "Maverick moment", and pushed it harder.

You missed the opening credits which is actually one of the most nostalgic parts of the movie...plus Danger Zone.

Where’d you go see it? There was about 35 minutes of bullshite when we went to the AMC theater off O’Neal Lane.
Just go see it again. It’s one of the few movies I’d ever tell people they have to see From start to finish.

I missed the first 10 minutes and the last 10. Wanted to beat traffic. Still a good movie.

Did you go to a theater that holds 100,000 people and allows tailgating in the parking lot?

The beginning is just him deciding to do the test before the Admiral gets there. Also wouldn't that be an Air Force test not Navy?

It's really just a realistic montage of him getting ready for high altitude flight. Breathing pure O2. (Can't have any nitrogen for 4-6 hours before flight)

I remember the Palace in Elmwood in its prime. Leaving would take a solid 10-15
