It's not the worst movie I have ever seen. I feel like a movie that is "downright awful" is a movie with no redeeming qualities. As bad as The Last Jedi was, there were things I did really like about it. But the negatives just completely ended up outweighing the positives IMO.

There are good qualities but it’s so overwhelmed by pure shite they’re not redeeming

the overall story line gave us a GREAT historical record of the Star Wars line "Many Bothans died to bring us this information." (even though we saw no Bothans)
That's because that line is in Return of the Jedi.

Things I liked about it were few and far between, and they were mostly nostalgia throwbacks.
The lore of luke, Leia, and han are just completely fricked now. They should have learned after vader's origin story was botched in the prequels, That they should have left well enough alone.
Like of all the directions they could have gone, and they could have gone in any direction after abolishing the expanded universe and making a sequel trilogy, they chose this convoluted and confusing path which shits on the classic trilogy.

The movie was the equivalent of eating a soup bowl full of vile dog shite with a morsel of Wagu Ribeye in the middle.
No matter how good that little morsel is. You still have to eat an entire bowl of shite. There's no chance I choose to eat that bowl of shite again.
Between this fricking movie, DragonBall: Evolution, and BvS I want to straight up murder producers, directors, and screenwriter who shite on all of an IPs history and characters and universes and decide to just do their own fricking thing and wipe their arse with the fanbase.

What really killed this movie for me was the characterization of Luke, the ultimate fate of his character, and some of the decisions made by Resistance leaders in regards to how they planned to get out of the situation they found themselves in. I also didn't like how they dispatched the primary antagonist with no explanation as to where he came from, what his motivations were, or how the hell he even came to know the Solos/Skywalkers.
All of this. "Luke Skywalker" in no way seemed like Luke Skywalker from the original trilogy.
And yes, Snoke who had little parts in TFA, but was built up on theory, was pretty much insignificant when it came down to it.
I don't see this director putting out a Star Wars I can be interested in.

Tell me why it sucks.
Spoilers
It was a convoluted mess that instead of reinforcing the backstories of the new and old characters that were in the first movie, it needlessly added more throwaway characters that either died without anyone caring or didn’t further the plot along at all, all the while ignoring or straight up butchering the important questions posed in the Force Awakens that the viewers were invested in like “Who are Rey’s parents, How did Snoke rise to power, why did Luke leave and what happened to Kylo and the knights of Ren that night they burned the temple down, how did Maz get the lightsaber” and making Poe and Luke look like a crazy dangerous a-hole and a big fricking pussy respectively while reinforcing just how much women control shite now and know more and are overall better than men. And that’s not even counting the Casino planet shite. They have new characters but they lack depth sooo much. They had some good parts but overall the movie fell way short
Now tell me why this movie was good.

Rian Johnson’s European arse should be flayed for what he did to Luke.
As a guy who has been a fan of Star Wars since I was 4 years old, I was excited about this movie until I read Mark Hamill say that he did not agree with the direction that Rian Johnson took Luke. I thought that meant he fricked it up. I have yet to see the movie, but it sounds like that is what he did.

I got that hint from TFA.

Not sure why you didn't like it, I did.
Probably because idiots like you go in with a preconceived notion of what you want it to be.

The movie was objectively bad from a directing standpoint. It wasn't paced well and it was constantly anticlimactic. Not one good guy ever paid a single meaningful consequence for their actions the entire movie.

It's not downright awful. I liked a few things in this film. There was some serious chemistry between Ren and Rey. The actors did a wonderful job with the scenes they were given. It's very obvious to me that the two characters are attracted to each other in a twisted way. Theirs is an interesting dynamic and both actors play their parts EXTREMELY well.
Seriously?
This is what you liked? It's a terrible aspect of the movie, almost as bad as casting Laura Dern.

Luke was a piss poor Jedi who ended up being a piss poor teacher. Shocker there to some.
The best part of the movie was the revelation that Luke was indeed a bad teacher and he created Kylo Ren.
Him sucking alien dick to live off the gallons of cum it produces on an island of JarJar frog people and Furbies was fricking terrible.

Most impressive, you were really rooting for it before hand. Sucks what they did to it.

Overall, I liked the movie but I did feel it had one glaring problem with it.
Spoilers
Finn’s story line in this movie was absurd and seemed like filler just to have him in the movie. It’s like the writers introduced a character in TFA and had nothing for him in this movie so they created some stupid side mission for him to go on that added nothing to the story nor benefited the resistance at all. What could have been a redeeming quality to Finn’s story line was the introduction of BDT’s character but they wasted him too. I get the whole “the rich benifit from war” bit but it wasn’t needed and Added nothing to this movie. So basically, I liked this movie other than the Finn/Rose storyline.
BUT
If they could have gotten Finn to the fight scene with Phasma some other way, that would have been cool. That scene with him and Phasmaw fighting in the foreground and BB-8 destroying troopers with the walker in the background was badass.

quote:Because they completely fricked up Finn's character in TFA. He could have been a great character, instead we go the janitor who does nothing but try to run away all the time. It's like the writers said..."We need a black guy!" instead of "We need a strong character that can help highlight the evils of the first order and help to move the plot along."
It’s like the writers introduced a character in TFA and had nothing for him in this movie
Make no mistake, Disney's first priority is diversity. In fact, at this point I'd say it's the only priority because they don't even use the diversity to move the plot along. The plot and storyline are not even aferthoughts.

I didn't read everything, because it drives me fricking nuts when some one brings up Bothans. That was the second death star not the first.
Bothans died to get them info on the second one, rouge one was about the first one.
