The fatter he gets the crappier the movies he makes. Anybody see the Pope's Exorcist?
There was a movie w/ Crowe and Leonardo Dicaprio about the CIA in Iraq. It came out 10 or 15 years ago.
Dicaprio was in the field and Crowe was his a-hole boss in Langley. Can't remember the title of the film, but it was a good flick.
Crowe was already on his way to becoming a fatass then.

LA Confidential is a fricking Masterpiece. It us also one of the most underrated movies of all time along with Millers Crossing.

The insider is such a good movie. Possibly my favorite from those listed in the OP.

Body of Lies wasn't horrible, wasn't that great either. I would just like to add that I think very highly of Crowe and am just let down by the last few movies he's made. The Water Diviner was good.

If he gets any fatter he can play fat Marlin Brando

Watched Master and Commander the other day. GOAT movie.
I know they cobbled various novels to make that movie but if there was ever a Trilogy begging to be made, this was it. At least one damn sequel...

I've always held this theory about those 3 movies.
Crowe was on a roll by the time The Insider came out. He should have won the Oscar for that performance.
His next movie is Gladiator, and the Academy gives him the Oscar as a makeup for screwing him on the Insider.
Then he makes A Beautiful Mind, and it was a no brainer that he should have gotten the Oscar, but the Academy didn't want to give it to him 2 years in a row.
So he should have gotten 2 Oscars out of this run, but received one for ironically the "worst" performance of the 3. The winners in those 2 years were Spacey and Denzel so its not like he lost to slouches, but it is at least an interesting theory.

He was a fatass in Gladiator too. He was supposed to have a sex scene. He took his shirt off and asked him to put his shirt back on again

Cinderella Man, 3:10 to Yuma and American Gangster.
Absolutely fantastic movies. I wish instead of american gangster, they would play Cinderella Man more often on the Turner networks. The end of the movie when they just play the fight over the old radio, it gives me goosebumps.

The majority of the movie is taken from the novels The Far Side of the World and Master and Commander. But there is stuff in the movie from thirteen of Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin books.

Axl's voice is awful now. It was good when he was young, but he blew it out
