Any else think the man in the white with the cape was Tarkin?
I doubt it, he couldn't really be much younger than he is in the original film. Unless parts of that story take place a long time before "Star Wars." Can't really have a younger version of Tarkin if the main event of "Rogue One" (stealing the Death Star plans) leads directly into the beginning of "Star Wars" (Leia's ship running from a Star Destroyer).

And depending on when during those 30 years between RotS and ANH
It's only 19 years between "...Sith" and "Star Wars."

TFA gets a pass for rebooting the series and it's pretty much a loose remake
But I agree, I'm getting Death Star overload. This story is about them stealing the plans, but there's no discovery aspect. It would be more interesting if we didn't already know what the secret weapon will be. I think it's better to make a movie about them stealing the plans to the Death Star without actually having it on the screen. We don't need to see it because we know what it is, and it makes the story feel smaller in a good way

the actual film than what was implied in the trailer.
Was he the guy in the cape?
I need to watch again.

Don't worry, white men will still be the villains.
Of course, the Imperial white privileged oppressors, this shite is getting a little ridiculous, I mean two new Star Wars reboots and the title characters are both chicks.

Just questioning why you would have another reboot with what looks like a character pretty much identical to Daisy Ridley's character.

Abrams wanted to cast a black guy. Boyega was a great choice for that role who cares if Abrams cast him for the wrong reason. It's about the result.

Other than being a female you don't know anything about her character.
You could end up being right, but none of us know anything

This doesn't redo anything.

Well its not really a reboot. its a... prequel spinoff sequel.
Since the galaxy is filled with British folk its not crazy to have another one.
Hell, the Rebellion's leader is a white British woman.
You would have said jack and shite if it was a white dude. Why is a white woman so terrible?

It's not a reboot, I kind of like the idea of taking one paragraph from the opening crawl and telling a story, but at the same time i don't know if I'll enjoy this movie being so closely related to an existing story. I want new stories

I also think there were a lot of great male characters in TFA. I don't get what the big deal is just because the main Jedi in the movie was female.
The Han movie is coming soon anyway.

I'm actually way more interested in seeing this story than I would be in the Han Solo or Boba Fett movies. And the Han movie is far more interesting than Boba Fett to me as well. Anything dealing with Fett is blatant pandering to fans, the character has been ruined enough thanks to the prequels.

quote:it depends on how they connect. I'm not sure I like direct relationships. I was hoping Disney would treat these spin offs like monster of the week X files episodes. Same spirit, standalone story. I think they box themselves in creatively.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be the first geek lined up to see this one, and After TFA, I think Kennedy gets the benefit of the doubt on any movie until they make a piece of crap (I'm looking at you Colin trevorrow)

Because she could be related to Rey?
Some of you getting your panties in a bundle and making huge assumptions on a teaser (not even a trailer) is cracking me up right now.

This is a new story. They friggin went in and stole the plans about the death star, the entire catalyst for A New Hope. That obviously has a lot more to it then just a mention in the scroll up.

I don't know why but this made me laugh. This dude with a stick is beating up on Stormtroopers with blasters

1. a new story, smaller in scope
2. that is unrelated to the events of the rebellion/empire and the jedi
2. with new characters
but I realize you have to transition towards that, or else you're not maximizing your brand name.
but I also love the idea of indirectly (maybe even directly as this one will clearly be) related stories with new characters
and I really like the idea of using existing characters with new smaller individual and unrelated stories. Boba fett is ideal as his mysterious gun slinger x factor was ruined in the prequels, so why don't we flesh out the character and redeem him. a space western with boba fett set before or after the OT (i'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to imagine he could fly out of that monster)
as long as you make it adventurous and full of discovery you can do a lot of creative things as far as drifting into other genres. a star wars movie about an underworld organization (a mob movie kind of) I'm not suggesting making rom coms or romance movies or horror movies (though maybe that could be interesting)
but for now, i'm intrigued, I will watch, I am excited. I did have a moment where I saw that guy in the white uniform posing like some kind of badass and thought about how every generic piece of shite movie has something like that in the trailer
