I'm already seeing a ton of people complaining about another death star. I understand it's a part of this story, but I still think it was incredibly dumb to include it in TFA.

Nothing wrong with them trying new things. I will see it regardless. But it doesn't have to be ALL gloomy. If they want us to get invested in these new characters, we have to like them first.

If they're going for continuity, this really should not be fun and light-hearted. This honestly should be one of the darkest films of the series, just based on time and setting.

This falls between Ep 3 (Revenge of the Sith) and Ep 4 (ANH). One of the best parts of the prequels is the ending of ep 3, with Senator Organa (Jimmy Smits) alongside Palpatine on the balcony, overseeing the massive amounts of troops. He has that "what have we done" look... this movie should be the bridge between that, and ep 4 (our classic Star Wars).

Movie SHOULD be dark and rough. Protests against the government being put down brutally, with massive force. Loss of individual freedom among the more prosperous planets, leading us to rely on the criminal and backwater fringes for any resistance.

I liked that trailer. Seems gritty. If they're trying to keep a lot of things under wraps, I feel like that was a pretty good teaser.

Are there rumors (or confirmation) of Palpatine making an appearance? I know Ian McDiarmid said a while back that he thought he would reprise the Emperor at some point.

I'll go see this but it doesn't quite feel like a star wars movie. I agree they are going overboard with the female lead crap. It's getting rather obvious. I love Rey as a character but this one just seems forced.

Get over it. This is Star Wars. A black Annie or an all-female lead for Ghostbusters could warrant this. Being upset over a female lead in a science-fiction movie is dumb.

That was actually the end of Episode 2.

I don't think the guy on the cloak is kneeling, I think he is walking down steps. The Imperial Guards being there suggests that the best guess is that it's The Emporer.

Hot British girl who's a badass leading a rebellion against an evil empire. Didn't I just see this in December? Seriously though Disney needs to be more creative

Holy balls that looks unreal!

The Imperial Walkers on the beach !

Also, at first I thought the "one Star Wars a year" would be oversaturated and annoying, but now I think going to see Star Wars at Xmas with the family will be one of my newest favorite traditions!

Then I may end up sitting this one out. I would hate not having fun at a Star Wars movie. It will bring back too many prequel memories.

No doubt.

I saw AT-ATs, Dark Troopers, (probably) The Emporer, heard a hint at Vader's breathing, saw the Death Star, saw Ben Mendelsohn as an Imperial.

That's a lot of great stuff for the first teaser.

Edited because I guess BM isn't going to be Tarkin. Ages don't work out.

Definitely

We've now had a death star in 4 of 8 star wars movies

Ok, my bad. I haven't seen those in awhile.

That still, to me, is the scene that stands out from the PT, that makes watching it worthwhile. The transistion from Republic to repressive Empire.
In order to keep you safe from the Banking Clan (and higher interest rates???), we will station a battalion of Stormtroopers in your major cities... and now that the war is over, the troopers remain.

I wish they would ax the Solo movie.

I do, too, but for different reasons.

I already know how Han's story turns out. There's no mystery left in his journey. I'm just not that interested in who he was before we met him in New Hope. Do I even need to know?

Part of what makes Han a compelling character in New Hope is that he's mysterious. We DON'T know his background.

So now we're going to take that away?

Donny Yen is fricking awesome.

I like the idea for the movie. Kind of annoyed with forcing another strong female character.

Don't act like there's some deep meaning to them being edgy. If it's edgy, it's because "edgy sells! people like edgy." It's not some poetic rationale. It's just another formula, as usual.

Overall, I really liked the trailer. However, they better have a lot more Vader (and in action) in the actual film than what was implied in the trailer.

That's an interesting point, which makes me wonder about this movie. In terms of overall plot we know exactly what happens. The rebels score their first victory in a raid and successfully steal the plans to the Death Star. It's not quite the smaller story I'm looking for because it directly relates to the zero sum conclusion of the original

At the same time, there's the characters and their stories that can unfold in any number of ways. Will they get enough focus, how can they do that while resurrecting the Death Star and darth Vader (which can easily overshadow the things that are new)

It looks like aesthetically this movie will have style, but I hope the camera work isn't dull.
