Both would have been a great model for Rey's character, but Rey is just a lifeless character.

The worst part is, is that there were plenty of people (including myself) who were totally down with Rey being the lead character of this trilogy...

in the last hour of TLJ, she isn't even in there except to show up for 5 minutes and move some rocks. It's the biggest waste ever of a potentially awesome character.

Don't forget being the single greatest Falcon turret gunner in history.

Yea if those are true, i'm going to be really upset. It would completely ruin Anakin. Just destroy the character. That pisses me off more than anything. I have plenty of issues in how Lucas executed the Anakin arc, but the character was a great character.

Did anyone else get irrationally angry at the thought of Han Solo coming back as a force ghost to talk to Ben/Kylo? How in the word is that even possible?

One of the least of my issues with that "leak". Force Ghost ability could potentially go from being a lost power only discovered by Qui-Gon and being passed down to some of the most powerful Jedi ever. To being something that happens to a smuggler who had no Force sensitivity or training and was just married to Organawalker and was best friends with Luke. WTF

None of it seems to fit a movie with that title.

Its maddening.

Look that whole “Anakin is the chosen one” nonsense has to stop. The Jedi believed there was prophecy to bring balance to the Force. Why? From an audience POV too many people are stuck on that idea.

1. Prophecies don’t always mean what they think and they can also be red herrings.

2. Why the hell would the Jedi want to bring balance to the Force when it wasn’t out of whack to begin with? If anything, things were too far to the light, which brings me to...

3. Dude brought down pretty much all of the Jedi and by the time he croaked, there was one “Jedi” left and Luke was hardly a Jedi like the generations before him. So really there were no Jedi and no Sith. No fanatics on either end of the Force. And Luke just had to start up a new Jedi Academy which was just going to repeat the mistakes of the past.

The OT was Anakin’s redemption told through Luke’s POV. The PT was Anakin’s rise and fall told through Obi Wan’s POV. The ST is end of the Skywalker lineage told from Rey’s POV. At least that’s what JJ is trying to do before Kathleen Kennedy can destroy that legacy any further.

Seriously how stupid was that twat for not having JJ and Kasdan write all 3 movies? Directing, whatever. But for franchises with massive narratives like this one, writing has and always will be more important than directing.

Gonna address a bunch of comments at once because I think y'all might be tiptoeing around something.

quote:

Rey is now the chosen one. Anakin was just a rogue jedi gone psycho.

quote:

The sell of the trailer though is Rey going dark, ala ROTJ.

quote:

I think it's a vision, I don't think Rey turns dark.

quote:

It does appear like they're focusing this on Rey.

quote:

Or a clone that Rey has to fight

Rey was born on the secret imperial facility on Jakku anyway, the one Palps said had to be defended at all costs in the books

quote:

They are doing their best to turn Rey into Superwoman. Without any supporting evidence as to it being possible

They are making her more powerful than Anakin, who was born of the midiclorians, and turned to the dark side because he lost his mother. Rey doesn't even know hers, and yet hasn't been phased by anyt conflict. And also more powerful than Luke, who was trained by the Jedi master himself. And even Ren, who is Skywalker blood, was trained by Luke as a Jedi and also in the ways of dark side, yet couldn't remember to take his light saber with him if Snoke didn't tell him to.

quote:

Perhaps Palpatine's essence transfer can only be stopped by Anakin? Rey and/or Kylo fight the current physical form of Poppa Palpatine and when they destroy it Akakin steps in as a Force Ghost and destroys Sidious' force being as he is trying to transfer it to another host?

quote:

I wonder who will be Kylo's apprentice.

quote:

This. It is the way of the Dark Side for the apprentice to take the life of the Master when his training is complete or his power exceeds that of the master.

quote:

Wait, there's more. She is actually identifies as a man,

quote:

I’m still bothered by Palpatine. If he’s alive (or at least able to influence force users), then doesn’t that undo Anakin being the Chosen One who destroyed the Sith by killing Palpatine and turning away from the Dark Side himself?

So I think there's a way to marry most of this.

Gonna start with the title "Rise of Skywalker". Who is this in reference to? I don't think it's Luke for obvious reasons. I don't think it's Ben Solo because well his name is Solo. Someone here is going to have to "rise" to the occasion and it's probably safe to assume the Skywalker referenced here is Rey, right?

So how is Rey a Skywalker? I don't think she's Luke's daughter because I think he would know if he had a daughter and it would be really awkward if he was keeping this from Rey. Not Leah's daughter for pretty much the same reason. But now we're running out Skywalkers to sire Rey, right?

It would be too easy for everyone if Rey just realizes her full potential as a Skywalker-line Jedi and rises to the occasion and defeats everyone and leaves a nicely packaged Disney ending. That's why I think the they are employing a ruse with the movie title. It could mean something else. Which brings me to the "who" and "how" of Rey.

First, the "how." It's something that we've always known about in the Star Wars universe...Rey is a clone. And as to "who"...it becomes pretty obvious once you recognize the how.

Rey is a female clone of Anakin Skywalker and the movie title really refers to the rise/resurrection of Anakin/Vader, but in Rey.

Rey being a clone of Anakin goes a long way to explaining her inexplicable mastery of the force. And your theory ties loose ends together. She is waiting for the Emperor to come and infuse some essence of the dark force into her or something of that nature.

Sadly, Your theory makes too much sense to be valid. Disney detests logical conclusions.

Assigning gender? The LGBTQ community will have a field day.

So inside Rey is really the mind and skill of a man? That’s why she’s so awesome at literally everything? Disney would never do something so politically incorrect.

The audience isn’t stuck on anything. Anakin was the chosen one. That is an undeniable fact.

All of this and you completely missed the point of it all. All of it right over your head.

Based on what?

The Jedi had a prophecy that a Sith Lord would conduct Force experiments in an attempt to cheat death and subsequently impregnate a random woman billions of miles away with blood mites that would give birth to a baby that has the highest blood mites concentration they were aware of, at least in recent years?

Yeah okay lol. The Jedi clinged to prophecy that necessites their own demise.

And assuming you are correct - even though that was only added in the Prequel Trilogy - you clearly missed the last 15 minutes of ROTS or just never saw this particular moment

I want to believe these leaks are fake, but I just cant.

After GoT, I have to actually assume that the completely horrendous writing choices are probable.

Lucas for starters. The Mortis Trilogy as well.

No, that entire scene pointed back to your point about prophecies being misinterpreted. The Jedi believed balancing the force meant eradicating the Sith. The misinterpreting the prophecy wasn’t that Anakin wasn’t the chosen one, it was what was actually involved in balancing the force.

What a desperate trailer.

Here's a bunch of random footage from the original trilogy! Please come see this movie!

ETA:

quote:

Episode 8: "Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."

Episode 9: "Oopsie... MEMBER STAR WARS?"

I think Thrawn would oppose Palpatine at this point as he’s a threat to the Chiss and in no way an ally.

Maybe they both go dark and Yoda force lightenings them both to death. Because he can do that now. Whenever and wherever he wants to.
