One of my favorites. The solitude of outliving your family and friends is inconsolable yet bearable.

What a great representation of it there.

Thanks for posting.

A River Runs Through It comes to mind immediately, and he wasn't even in it. The dude had an iconic voice; Up there with James Earl Jones and Morgan Freeman.

They apparently had him narrate an upcoming show about Thoreau and Walden Pond. Will be worth looking out for on PBS.

He played MAJ Julian Cook in A Bridge Too Far where he reenacted the 504th Infantry making the assault across the Mass River in canvas sided boats. During the crossing, you heard him saying "Hail Mary, full of grace".

His portrayal of Denys Finch Hatton had a profound effect on me as a young person. His uncompromising need for freedom in his relationships left quite an impression. When Blixen told him she wanted to be had at a price and demanded he give up things for her and he replied "You have no idea how that language affects me." was a significant moment. He always seemed to gravitate towards roles that had a quiet resolve and rugged individuality.

He was an individualist despite being admired by the crowd.

It's amazing that many kids and younger folks will know him mainly for a freaking Marvel movie. But again, that's a testament of his fascinating career.

I heard lots of folks say Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid was his most iconic movie. Maybe. but for me, The Sting is what came to my mind first.
