It's ok to ask questions and criticize Nolan's movies. It's still an awesome movie.

The Dark Knight Rises kind of magnified the inconsistencies in The Dark Knight. They were so glaring in TDKR that when you go back to TDK, you realize some of them are in there too.

Agree. On my second viewing I really noticed these problems and they started to bug me as more plot hole arise throughout the rest of the movie. That's why I like Batman Begins more. TDKR is crap.

You can overanalyze anything to death. When it comes to super hero movies, my suspension of disbelief is at its peak, so things like the school bus sequence are cool to me. I'm not thinking about how real world logical they are.

I would have cared less about the school bus sequence if it was a clear choice that the other buses were being driven by Joker's henchmen. But if they did that, the question arises right away about, would he have to kill the other drivers afterward too?

But the movie clearly has some sounds of kids talking on a bus, meaning it was just a procession of school buses taking kids to school.

There's just no way that a school bus drives out of a bank and strong arms its way into a line of school buses without someone beeping a horn at a minimum, or much more likely, saying wtf is this, stopping and calling the cops immediately.

Not to mention the unbelievable timing of a line of school buses passing by right as the Joker wrapped up the bank robbery.

If Nolan had made it Joker's men driving the buses, I wouldn't have anything to say.

True but they’re on the move and there were a bunch of buses. He likely would’ve stashed a getaway car in another lot or garage and been gone shortly thereafter

The falling off the building onto the car bothered me more than the bus scene

To each their own. Nolan was trying to make things more grounded and realistic than typical superhero movies. Doesn't help when you have unrealistic stuff happening that could have easily been fixed with stronger choices. And on top of that you're saying we shouldn't criticize Nolan at all because he's made awesome movies.

Yeah, it doesn't mean you're not allowed to criticize him at all. You have to admit your timing seems a bit spiteful.

But go ahead. Overanalyze everything. Be miserable. You have my blessing.

I think this about most of Nolan's movies. They are great on first watch, the more you think about them the more they fall apart. Just don't think about them too hard and enjoy some escape is my approach.

The Presitge is quite the opposite. It almost gets better upon more rewatches because you pickup on the little things that lead to the twist. It honestly might be his best movie.

The Dark Knight Rises ebbs and flows with me as far as rewatchability goes. Wayne losing his fortune, all of the police being trapped underground, Bruce fixing his back via pushups in a third world prison, etc. So many stretches that are kind of lazy on Nolan’s part. I do think they were planning to have the Joker in the third so it screwed things up but they tried to do too much.

I hated how they shoe horned Two face into the final act

Not sure how it would have been written, but I’ve always thought they should’ve saved Harvey’s heel turn for TDKR and have him be the main antagonist. Maybe after Heath died it just threw everything into a tailspin. It always seemed like Nolan just wanted to end the trilogy as quick as he could and move on, which may explain why TDKR is kind of clunky.

not a regular on this board, although I may become one. im curious if its a universal opinion that the joker in dark night is the best character in action movie history

Your first shot out of the box was trying to tell me what to do. If you don't like what I'm saying, that's your problem.

I don't have to admit anything. Got recommended some Joker scenes on YouTube and decided to rewatch TDK.

I said TDK was still awesome. Praised Ledger's performance.

It's one thread out of a million on an LSU message board.

give TDKR a bit of a pass since Ledger's death likely threw whatever outline he had for a 3rd film in the trash.

I'm convinced Nolan would have followed more of the knightfall plotline from the comics. Would have been awesome to see Bruce tear through his rogues gallery in the first act only to have Bane show up when he's practically dead and snap him in half. That's the kind of story Nolan would eat up. Joker had a big hand in that plot.

Rewatched The Dark Knight

If all movies were based entirely on realism, we would be missing out on a lot of fun.

Not too many 25’ great whites out there aggressively leaping into the back of boats or Trans Am cars remaining drivable after a 100+ foot jump.

Great scenes, though.

Your examples are unrealistic things done plausibly.

The things I'm complaining about are unrealistic things done so implausibly that they take a lot of people out of the movie.

This happens so often in The Dark Knight Rises that nobody thinks it's as good as The Dark Knight. See what I'm saying?

Again with the school bus thing, Nolan would have us accept that the Joker timed a bank robbery so perfectly that he could drive the school bus seamlessly into a line of school buses passing by at the exact moment he was finished with the robbery? And the guy driving the school bus that let Joker into the line was just like, oh yeah, school bus must have accidentally crashed into that bank, lemme let him back in and just pretend like nothing happened. And the drivers ahead of and behind him who saw a school bus crashed into a bank in reverse and just idling there didn't wonder wtf that was all about?

Why not just have the other school buses be driven by Joker's henchmen? I mean I'm a common pauper but that seems like a way better, more believable / more plausible idea.

How the heck did the T Rex break through on ground level and then there was a 100’ drop later on

Man movies really stink!
