Why does Batman trust that the Joker gave him the right address for Rachel?

Nothing but lies and deception from the Joker the whole movie, and Batman just takes his word that Rachel's at that address.

I don't know, I guess with Joker you never know if he would have done the double trick, where if you went to the other address, you still might have ended up with Dent. But still.

Other than that, there are some things in The Dark Knight that are kind of unbelievable, but nobody really complained too much about them. Then in The Dark Knight Rises, things get so unbelievable that they didn't get a pass, and people complained.

A crowd doesn't gather around a school bus driving into a bank? The convoy of school buses doesn't skip a beat when another school bus drives out of a bank and into their procession?

'Also the Joker's godlike ability to set up elaborate traps that would seem to require hundreds of people and months of planning to set up' is hard to believe.

Strange that they didn't have Dent under max protection at the hospital, and then when Joker announces that a hospital was going to be blown up, that wasn't their first thought--what about Dent?

Strange how Dent just gets into the car with the guy and is driven away after the Brinks truck chase sequence. And how Alfred just lets Rachel leave Bruce's place when the Joker has demonstrated the ability to get to and even kill high ranking officials of the state.

Batman's disappearing ability is hard to believe.

The ferry standoff could have been trimmed down.

Originally I thought the movie had a breathtaking pace in a good way, but maybe they were trying to pack so much into one movie that it just seems that way. TDKR had this problem more noticeably maybe.

Heath Ledger's performance is off the charts. I don't think it will ever be topped. Also that haunting note that cues the Joker's appearance every time is great.

It’s an all time movie but there are certainly a few rough edits that Nolan got a little lazy on. Batman disappearing isn’t one of them. That’s kind of the trope of the character.

Batman suddenly showing up at the party in the Penthouse without any kind of “theatrical” entrance was a missed opportunity. Then after he saves Rachel, they just cut away. Nevermind that the Joker is still up in the penthouse with all of those people.

The biggest flaw of Nolan’s Batman storyline is that Wayne is only Batman for 6 months or so. The Dark Knight takes place several months after Batman Begins. Then he quits for seven years before being Batman a few more times in The Dark Knight. The second biggest flaw is Bruce Wayne losing his fortune the day after terrorists take over the stock exchange.

I really like it, but it's always been very flawed for me. I think it's too long, I hated how they shoe horned Two face into the final act. But the rest is damn good, and Ledger is freaking awesome

The one inside the bank vault is my main complaint.

That's a great point.

This always gets me too

As for wrong address, he had to try. Was he just not going to check those addresses and hang out twiddling his thumbs?

There were a few callbacks to ‘89 in the movie and this should’ve been one. At least break in through the window like the art gallery in ‘89, or maybe something with a zipline for the “hold on”

Yeah but I mean, knowing that the Joker is a liar and completely unreliable, the thought wouldn't cross your mind to go to the other address instead? I know it's Monday morning quarterbacking, but the way it plays out, Batman gets tricked by the Joker and loses the love of his life as a result of taking the Joker at his word.

He gave him two addresses and he went to save Rachel and Joker switched who was at each, so he saved Dent, right?

Yes, that's right. And I'm saying, why believe that the Joker was giving the right address in that situation.

I'm not sure, but that didn't bother me that much. What if he thought Joker was hoping he'd think he switched the addresses? Joker could've definitely played that game as well, he was always a step ahead.

And he sent someone else after Dent (which ended up being Rachel).

I think this about most of Nolan's movies. They are great on first watch, the more you think about them the more they fall apart. Just don't think about them too hard and enjoy some escape is my approach.

I think the thing is, the Joker knew that Batman's love for Rachel was his main weakness / vulnerability.

So if Batman was able to think about it without emotion, he might have realized that wherever the Joker said Rachel would be, that would be a lie.

Yes, so many things happen so fast in Nolan's movies that they don't register at first. Or the next thing starts up so fast that you just have to let it go to stay in the present watching the movie.

But after repeated viewings, you have time to see things.

well two things....

1. people are more forgiving of the plot holes because as a hole the movie is really good and Heath's performance really lifted it even further.
2. While Nolan's trilogy was more grounded in reality....its still a comic book film so yeah you're going to have to suspend belief at times.

This one was bad....."yeah uhh we think it might have been fraud but we can't prove it" Ahh you think something fraudulent might have happened when that guy broke into the stock exchange and hacked some shite? Yeah maybe!"

There were probably better ways to write that. I give TDKR a bit of a pass since Ledger's death likely threw whatever outline he had for a 3rd film in the trash.

Stop this. Nolan has made some awesome movies, regardless of his current entanglements.

I don't think it's "trust" but rather that with the Joker the truth is just as likely as a lie.

I think a better question is why weren't there patrol officers in either vicinity either way? Were they ALL at the station when it went down?

Yes, that doesn't make sense but is a good visual so we let it slide.

Dent being an afterthought was definitely a necessary plot hole

The movie, as a whole, is pretty good for that sort of thing.

But, the only real reason it got so much attention at the time and continues to be talked about is Ledger's Joker.
