First, if you're among the younger posters here who may not have seen this movie, I strongly recommend it. While there are a few CGI moments that are clearly from what was a smaller budget 1994 film, the sets and interactions hold up to this day. Give it a watch.

I rewatched the movie recently and there are so many things about this movie I really liked.

First, the story - a revenge story wrapped within a layer of the fantastic. Dark and powerful.

Second, Brandon Lee - we'll never know if he could have continued on after this movie, but he was more than just an action star in this.

Third, the music - if you were a fan of mid-90s grunge/alternative, this movie was basically your soundtrack.

Fourth, the dialog - you got great dialog and powerful conversations, but intermixed with quite a few great one-liners...
"Move and you're dead!"
"I say I'm dead, and I move."

ALSO:
"Is that gasoline I smell?"

For those unfamiliar, Brandon Lee died while filming this movie, the cause:

quote:

In the fatal scene, which called for the revolver to be actually fired at Lee from a distance of 12–15 feet, the dummy cartridges were exchanged for blank rounds, which feature a live powder charge and primer, but no bullet, thus allowing the gun to be fired without the risk of an actual projectile. As the production company had sent the firearms specialist home early, responsibility for the guns was given to a prop assistant who was unaware of the rule for inspecting all firearms before and after any handling. Therefore, the barrel was not checked for obstructions when the time came to load it with the blank rounds.[20][21] Since the bullet from the dummy round was already trapped in the barrel (a condition known as a squib load), this caused the .44 Magnum bullet to be fired out of the barrel with virtually the same force as if the gun had been loaded with a live round, and it struck Lee in the abdomen, mortally wounding him.

The actress that played the young girl left acting, a combination of being recognized (as the movie exploded in popularity) and the loss of Lee, whom she had become good friends with during filming.

If you've never seen it, or if it's been a while, go see it. Just a powerful movie, one that was in that era that started the trend of action with deeper and deeper plots.

It is one of those films I’m surprised got finished, let alone had the success it did.

The scenes of Lee in the burned out apartment, amongst some others, were filmed with a body double after his death.

They also had to do some meatball surgery on the plot, IIRC, because there were unfilmed scenes they couldn’t pull off with a double. There was a character known as the “Skull Cowboy” who got cut as a result.

It is a great movie. It has its faults, but I think most of those come from the fact that Lee died during the making of the movie, and they had to add in some additional scenes and rework things to finish the movie.

Great villains, too.

Yep.

Top Dollar (Michael Wincott) is always great as a scumbag. Same with T Bird (David Patrick Kelly), who was huge in The Warriors because he was a favorite of director Walter Hill.

Skank telling Top Dollar about what happened to T Bird was fricking hilarious.

He was so high on something (meth?) that he was rambling at high speed and Top Dollar suggests filming him and watching it back in slow motion.

Who the heck downvotes The Crow?

Every time the Alec Baldwin stuff comes up, I think most of us of course are reminded of this movie and the Brandon Lee tragedy.

It is one of those films that tends to pop up every Halloween as well as being part of other pieces of pop culture due to the iconic face paint being appropriated by wrestler Sting, amongst others.

Yes, I love that scene... and it was brilliant to leave the speed freak as the last remaining survivor of their crew.

Oh, and can't believe I forgot to mention that you had both The Candyman (Tony Todd) and Ghostbuster Winston (Ernie Hudson) in it, as well as Bai Ling who plays the villain's sister/lover.

One of the more overrated movies of its time. This movie would be completely forgotten if not for Brandon Lee dying and the soundtrack, which is also overrated. Brandon Lee's performance was decent though.

That’s what you get naming yourself Sky Raper.

Just kidding.

Downvote stalkers are quite funny, I’ll say so myself.

One of my favorite movies from my childhood. I often wonder and discuss with friends what kind of a career he would've had, had he not died.

I had read the comic as a young teen and was obsessed with the movie when it came out. I had a Crow poster on my wall, and a few Crow t-shirts. I bought the movie on VHS when it came out and would watch it often.

Many years later it was my bachelor party and we wound up at Visions - as bachelor parties often do.

Visions has a thing where you can pay to have someone pulled on stage by the strippers, and they pull your clothes off and basically beat the shite out of you.

My friends did that to me. I was so drunk that I didn't care.

After being beaten by a bunch of strippers, they pulled me back stage so I can put my clothes back on. The girls all signed a Visions shirt. But signed it with their stripper names like "Sparkle" and "Gem Stone' or whatever it is strippers call themselves.

One of the girls, who had a goth theme going on, signed the shirt "True Love Always, Shelly Webster"

She said "You probably don't even know who Shelly Webster is."

As drunk as I was, I looked her dead in the eye and said "Mother is the word for God on the lips and hearts of all children."

She basically melted on the spot. I'm pretty sure I could have taken her home that night.

14 Things You Didn't Know About The Crow Soundtrack

1. The Cure's "Burn" was recorded by just the band's frontman Robert Smith and drummer Boris Williams

2. Machines of Loving Grace read the screenplay of The Crow before writing "Golgotha Tenement Blues" and created the song to fit the film

3. Stone Temple Pilots originally planned to contribute a different song than "Big Empty" to the soundtrack, but switched gears after Brandon Lee's death

4. Nine Inch Nails' Joy Division cover ("Dead Souls") is a Crow soundtrack standout, but according to Peter Hook, the former members of Joy Division were originally asked to cover the band

5. Rage Against the Machine's "Darkness" dates back to Zack de la Rocha's pre-RATM band Inside Out

6. Violent Femmes had written "Color Me Once" before they were asked to contribute in The Crow soundtrack, but based on what they heard about the movie, they thought it would fit

7. The song "Ghost Rider" is based on the Marvel comic-book character, but Henry Rollins was not a fan of the "motorcycle hero ... blazin' away"

8. Helmet's "Milktoast" is an alternate version of the band's "Milquetoast" recorded with Nevermind producer Butch Vig, who played a big part in the outcome of both versions

9. Pantera not only paid tribute to hardcore crew Poison Idea with their cover of "The Badge," but they also took influence from the group on Far Beyond Driven

10. For Love Not Lisa were initially reluctant to be part of The Crow soundtrack because they thought it was going to be "crappy kung-fu movie"

11. My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult shot their brief but memorable cameo in The Crow, playing their song "After the Flesh" "10 thousand times" in a freezing cold abandoned cement factory over two days

12. Despite being released on the Jesus and Mary Chains' The Sound of Speed compilation months before its appearance on The Crow soundtrack, "Snakedriver" was written for the movie

13. Medicine's "Time Baby III" features the Cocteau Twins' Elizabeth Fraser and is titled "III" because there are, in fact, three versions of the song

14. Jane Siberry's "It Can't Rain All the Time" was co-written by Graeme Revell, who scored the movie and was also the mainstay member of Eighties industrial outfit SPK

Love this movie. It's like peak 90s grunge, goth, angst, sludge, and music all wrapped up in a surprisingly fun movie.

If this happened just as you said that's a pretty good story
