To this day Cowboy Bebop and Trigun are the only two I can still go back and rewatch the entire season.

I was never into anime but my brother forced me to watch Death Note and it ended up being an absolutely amazing show. Code Geass is another good one from what I hear.

On Netflix:
If you're wanting something unabashedly over-the-top, Gurren Lagann's a lot of fun. Action series that doesn't takes itself very seriously, probably not what you're looking for if you want something more serious but it's a crazy ride and great for what it is.

In the same vein, Kill la Kill's a great high-octane action series. Gloriously tacky, kinda sleazy (though that's sort of the point), just all sorts of insanity.

Rurouni Kenshin's a pain to get through at times (at least for the first few episodes), but the drama's great where it exist. Gets derailed by the token "wacky" humor, the great moments and story make it worth it though.

Also, I've been meaning to look into Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Internet makes it sound vague, anyone got an opinion on it?

Akami ga kill
Blue Exorcist
Claymore
Berserk
Lupin the Third
Hellsing Original
Aragoto Norami
Hrm. If your giving Anime a try for the first time try a short anime. As watching a 100+ episode anime is alot of work. lol
Id Recommend trying out Akami Ga Kill first.
I didnt really enjoy Attack on titan.
I can go on forever naming animes.
But if you have the time try
Shakugan no Shana Season 1
Alot of Anime has different tastes.
Like for instance one of my favorite genres are the cooking animes. :O Or id get blasted on here if any of yall were big anime fans but my favorite anime is Toriko. lols

Hunter X Hunter is long(152 or 153 30 minute episodes), but the final arc is one of the best in anime, and the rest of the show is pretty damned good as well.

While we differ in baseball rules.......

I'd suggest DBZ for someone just dipping their toes. I also really enjoyed Gundam Wing.

Some of my all-time favorites are Cowboy Bebop, Yu-Yu Hakusho and Inuyasha.

Full Metal Alchemist is also a solid choice.

For anime first timers, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is pretty great. My wife even got into that to some degree, which fricking shocked me.

Depending on your age and tolerance for long, drawn out nonsense, Naruto and DBZ could be good as introductions, too. For younger folks, those shows are fantastic.

Once you get introduced to anime, you can begin to build up with other very accessible shows like Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Wolf's Rain, and Last Exile.

Then you can get into the weird shite. I don't care what anyone says, Attack on Titan is weird as frick. So are Gantz and FLCL. So is Akira (though that is what really got me excited about anime generally and blew my fricking brain).

You may need to start even further away from anime. Watch Batman the animated series or some of the Batman animated movies. Make your way to Avatar the Last Air Bender (which is for a younger audience but is pretty great). Then get into DBZ, or Naruto, or, if you're older, Full Metal Alchemist. Then do Cowboy Bebop and the like.

Anime is like scotch. You can't jump into a Balvenie 30 and expect to really appreciate it until you've gone through the Johnnie Walker and Dewar's and Glenlivet.

So on a scale of 1-10, how badly do I need to watch Attack on Titan

ETA: Nvm.....non-dubbed anime is a no-go for me. Just can't do it.

Some animes are better in Japanese. Some in Japanese aren't better or worse just a different take.

Examples
DBZ - I prefer the english voice actors. Vegeta and Goku are perfectly done.
Naruto - I like both styles. Japanese Sakura is not nearly as annoying as English Sakura however English Naruto is more over the top which makes for a bit more humor.
Berserk - I liked in Japanese

Also not all anime is dubbed. You are missing out on some good shows/movies IMO.

Oh I'm sure, but I just can't read and watch the show for long periods of time. Like more than 20-minutes without totally missing what's going on in the actual animation.

Since you're saying subbed is a no-go. You'll need one with good voice acting. Some popular ones, (looking at you Naruto) are unwatchable dubbed.

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Cowboy Bebop
-both are animes that don't have that anime-y feel.
Tri-Gun is another classic.

Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar: The Legend of Korra are both good shows.

Other non-anime animated shows are Archer and Rick and Morty.

I've tried watching Attack on Titan but couldn't ever get into it.
