Justified: City Primeval has been officially greenlit at FX with Timothy Olyphant reprising his role as U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens.
Seven years on from the end of FX’s Justified, Sony Pictures Television and FX Productions are producing their latest Elmore Leonard adaptation, based on the author’s City Primeval: High Noon In Detroit novel. The development was teased early last year at which point Deadline revealed Fargo star Olyphant was in talks to return.
Olyphant is also exec producing alongside showrunners and writers Dave Andron and Michael Dinner and original creator Graham Yost, with Dinner directing.
The show returns to Givens’ story eight years after he’s left Kentucky and he is now based in Miami, balancing life as a Marshal and part-time father of a 14-year-old girl. A chance encounter on a Florida highway sends him to Detroit and he crosses paths with Clement Mansell, aka The Oklahoma Wildman, a violent sociopath who’s already slipped through the fingers of Detroit’s finest once and wants to do so again.

No Walton Goggins, no care.
Spin off culture is a scam.

Meh. Olyphant is heavily involved. It’s based on similar content from the same author with the same main character (Raylan). That’s less “spin off” and more continuation of the same story. I’m absolutely down for that.
And I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Goggins at some point.

Goggins was SIGNIFICANTLY better than Olyphant in the original. I'll give this a shot but don't have high hopes. I like Olyphant, but his Raylan was pretty one note.

I don’t know much about the book version of Givens, but being “one note” worked well for his TV version. I don’t want too much variation in a character that is supposed to be cold and unflinching.

If it's close to the original, will watch, what a great overall series, and so well written.
But Walter Goggins was a huge part of the show.

Raylan isn't in the novel. So either he's replacing another character or is there to get us into another Justified franchise with different characters and to occasionally pop in to the new series. Either way, I'm down to give it a watch.

Boyd Crowder GOAT for sure (especially in the later seasons, he carried season 5)
With that said - Givens isn’t far behind. He’s a fantastic character

I’ m watching. I thought Olyphant was really good as Givens. I

Of for fricks sake here we go with the hot takes. Raylan's charisma and badasssery was the show. Boyd was great but without Timothy Olyphant that show wouldn't have lasted long enough for Boyd to even develop

It's gonna be good.

Cant wait. A couple of years ago we decided to donate all of our dvds because we can stream everything now. There were a few show collections i just couldnt bring myself to get rid of and Justified was one of them. 90% of the time im at the office by myself so ill throw that or Deadwood on for background noise.

Nice! Even though I lost interest in the show after the Mags Bennett arc.
