I posted a thread the other day about enjoying slow burn shows more as I've aged and specifically referenced the wire. I've never seen past season 2 of the show, and that viewing was probably over 10 years ago. I'm currently doing a watch/rewatch and am really enjoying and am about 3/4 of the way through season 2. I'm pumped to keep going after that because it'll all be brand new to me.

So anyway, as the title mentions, how would you rank the seasons being as spoiler-free as possible? I'd always heard that 2 if pretty polarizing with some saying it's awful while some saying it's incredibly underrated. So far during my view it's not season 1 but is still very entertaining and has much of the same feel. I'm curious how 3/4/5 stack up to 1/2. I'm suyre there's thousands of articles on this very topic but I don't want to google for fear of spoilers.

The last season focusing on the journalists was without question the worst one.

I consider the Wire a 3-season series with 2 sequel seasons (which decreased in quality as they went on).

On one hand Im' pumped that 3 is getting a lot of love. On the other kinda bummed that 4/5 seem to generally be looked down on

Mainly have 1 over 2 for the sole reason that it was so groundbreaking at the time.

5 was disappointing overall. The newspaper angle and the serial killer angle were not good stories or writing.

damn it seems unanimous that 4/5 are the worst.

Again wtihout getting spoilery, what makes 5 so universally the worst? With 1 and 2, although the overarching story (drugs/towers in 1, the docks in 2) are different the "feel" and tone of hte show is the same. Many of the same charactesr as well. I understand the main theme of each season is different but what about 5 makes it so shitty? Does the "feel" change? Is it an entirely new cast? Just a crappy non-compelling story?

It jumps the shark a bit plot wise.

Also, by this time in the story many of the original characters that made the first three seasons so compelling are either gone or had their roles minimized pretty considerably.

ETA: Neither 4 nor 5 were "bad" television. Both were watchable and I enjoyed them the first time around. They were just a tier beneath the earlier seasons, IMO, and less re-watchable.

I know you were one of the OGs with me on this campaign, and it seems, based on this thread, that we won the war.

This was like a literal 15-year journey

I'm trying to think of all the Season 2 GOAT OGs.

Me, rnc, uncle stu, h-town tiger...That may be the roster.

Ugh I hate putting Hamsterdam as 2nd to worst but I can’t really put it any higher which is a testament to how great the show is
