Rad - Johnny Farham - Thunder in the Heart

Just a little afternoon pickmeup from that monolith of a movie.

I used to belong to a BMX freestyle club. We called ourselves the Rad Dogs.

I can't believe I just admitted that.

It sounded a lot cooler in 1985. We worked for the Get Wet shop in Lafayette and put on shows in the parking lot. My best trick was called a Wilton, which is now so garden variety that I don't think people even do it anymore.

I bumped into one of my teammates years later. He had become a skinhead. True story.

I just did a google search to make sure there are no existing pictures of us with our lime green shirts and purple shorts. Thank god, there are not.

Gonna give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you just forgot about Over The Top, Bloodsport, and American Ninja.

When I was 12 I asked for a Mongoose for Christmas. Instead I got a "Huffy" from Gibson's.

I recently confronted my mom about it.

We really did dress like a bunch of homos back then.

I did get to meet Evel Knievel there, though, one of the highlights of my youth. We built a ramp and had one of our guys jump over three cars in his honor. His handlebars folded all the way down on the landing, but he still stuck it. Evel was impressed.

nice. I had a red/white huffy with the white plates on the tires. I took the plates off and put the bike back together, I thought. Half a block down the road front tire came off. I flipped over the handlebars and cried dragging the bike home.

Then I had a black/gold bmx, got stolen.

Then a turquoise/white mongoose with some pegs. I was a pimp

Yeah, you had to have pegs to do a lot of the tricks. I rode a white Haro, which was eventually stolen by, I think, the guy who ended up becoming a skinhead. He was always kind of a piece of shite.

No. They were even gayer than that. Solid lime green and much brighter purple, Get Wet's unofficial colors at the time.

Me too, I always wanted to ride in that Kix bowl. Yep, I tell my 11 year old to get his arse outside all the time.

Me and my boys stayed outside till we couldn't see anymore.

I loved that movie and Gleaming the Cube

We had very similar childhoods. I'm surprised that thing didn't just meltdown in the VCR.

ETA: What I wouldn't give to have a BMX dance off with 1986 Lori Loughlin
