Well, the problem with the movie is that it violated the spirit of the book. The whole point of the book is that he used science and reason to survive. The crew each had a strength that all of the working together was why he survived. It was the commander's decision to blow the hatch that saved his life, not the girl boss commander abandoning her post becuase she has zero trust in her crew. The entire suspense of that scene was not if they would get him back but how they would get him back. The movie blew it big time with having to make the girl boss commander save the day.

Its a really good movie that made a bunch of money and was critically successful as well

Jurassic Park movie was trash compared to the book

Sphere was utter garbage compared to the book.

Each screen play fundamentally rewrote the premise of the original to fit a narrative.

It isn't. Its not going to be anywhere near as focused on hard science or as much philosophy

Definitely a bit more straightforward

This is correct. The only similarity is the sun dying. Everything else after that is pretty unique.

I want to go see this one in theaters. The book lis excellent.

I'm not sure about this movie. The previews have kind of turned me off. It doesn't look that good and it kind of gives me vibes of that horrible Adam Sandler Netflix space movie. Please tell me it will be better than the previews. I'm unsure if I will go see it at the threatre until I get some feedback.

Same author as The Martian. I’ve read the book twice. It’s fantastic.

If they manage to capture the story in the same way as they did with The Martian, this movie will make a billion dollars easily.

How did she save the day? Yeah she went out but she was tethered to the ship and didn’t actually take any risks or do much.

I haven’t seen a movie in theaters since EndGame.

This is a can’t miss for me. But I also listened to the audiobook and can’t wait.

I'm not interested in this movie at all. Honestly, I have Ryan Gosling fatique. Dude is in everything, like gay Pedro Pascal.

I just picked up the book this past weekend. It was highly recommended by friends and coworkers. It's apparently an excellent story

Ive read all of Andy Weir books.

He writes super intelligent stories in terms of content. But early on i thought he was a bit of a weaker writer than story creator and researcher.

This book shows how far hes come. Its awesome.

Disagree here. I think the movie was better than the book. The book launched an amazing premise but it's kind of all over the place, has terrible prose and many parts are either unfilmable or unsuitable for a broad audience. The latter two would ordinarily be fine because it's a novel but also consider Chrichton sold the film rights before he fully wrote the novel so he knew it was going to be a movie and still wrote it that way.

Go read Michael Chrichton's original screenplay (online) that he wrote for Spielberg. It's a hot mess and very poorly written. They had to hire several writers to turn it into something usable.

I hate to say it, but I recently tried to listen to the audio book and lost interest (I read it when JP the film was about to come out).

Jurassic Park is fricking awesome, and anyone that is bemoaning it and the book is just not worth arguing with, because its just someone that is incapable of separating the two genres.

I defy anyone to find blockbuster movies of that level made today that have a scene like the one where they are discussing the moral and philosophical implications of what has been done, that goes on as long as it does and is as riveting as it is.

They don't do it because they think audiences are too stupid and impatient for that now

Cant be worse than the budget for woke cast movies that fail. As long as they dont make it a shitty book conversion like enders game came out as.

Huge Gamble
Define "huge". Amazon's current market cap is $2.3 Trillion.

That means the movie is a one basis point "gamble". .01%. 1/10kth

If you were worth $1 Million, this would be like you funding a friend's indie flick with $1000.

And certainly nobody thinks the movie is going to bring in less than, say, $100M. So really, we are talking about an even smaller gamble.

I mean, i dont know how you'd make this into a decent movie. Kid actors pretty much suck regardless.

Variety: ‘Project Hail Mary’ Director Says ‘There’s No Green Screen in the Movie Whatsoever’ but Clarifies There’s 2,018 VFX Shots: ‘Not a Single Green or Blue Screen Was Used’

quote:

“Project Hail Mary” co-director Christopher Miller issued a clarification on X after his recent interview with Comicbook.com went viral for his revelation that the movie features zero green screens despite being a VFX-heavy space odyssey.
quote:

“Green screen is sometimes used in lieu of building sets or figuring out locations/lighting in advance, which can be noticeable if not done carefully, and is something we didn’t want to do,” Miller explained. “We built the entire interior of the Hail Mary ship – but within the ship, there were still wire and puppeteer removals and ceiling replacements, etc.”

Miller continued, “When Ryan is outside on the hull of the ship, we shot him in front of a black background for space and a shifting hue background when he was up against the aurora of a planet which allowed for truer interactive light on him than a green screen would. The wide space exteriors and spaceship shots were entirely digital and beautifully done by ILM. Rocky was a seamless blend of puppetry and animation from Framestore. And other great work from many more. It really does take a village and we had the best of the best on our side.”

This didn't seem right, so I looked it up.

Last 10 years

2016 - La La Land
2017 - Blade Runner 2049
2018 - First Man
2022 - The Gray Man
2023 - Barbie
2024 - The Fall Guy
2026 - Project Hail Mary

Pascal has 22 acting credits during that timeframe

Pascal may have more acting credits, but I am still not interested in watching Project Hail Mary. The only movies that I am currently looking foward to is the new Scary Movie, Part 1 of the Resurrection, and Dune 3. I plan on going to the theatre to watch the latter 2.
