Red One, Amazon’s own $250 million-plus Dwayne Johnson– and Chris Evans-starring holiday comedy, which was beset by miserable reviews and a shorter-than-hoped-for theatrical window, barely cracked $185 million worldwide in late 2024.

But the reviews are some of the most positive I have ever seen for a movie. I bet word of mouth is going to make this thing take off quickly. Movie theaters really need this as a shot in the arm going into summer
I have told everybody I know to see it. I’m taking my family to see it Saturdays will do XD or IMAX by myself in the next month.
I don’t see a world where I don’t enjoy it but I am a scifi and movie nerd. Just stick to 50/% of the source material and I’ll be ecstatic.

They stuck to a lot more than that.

The last two movies I’ve seen in theaters are Dune and Dune II.
I am doing the same and nobody in my friend group (35) has ever heard of the book. It’s one of my favorite novels.
Imax 70mm in Dallas has the decent seats sold out for the next week. This is with showings at 8:30 am and 2:30 am each day. Crazy!

Anyone who has seen it: is it ok to show to a couple 3rd graders or are the themes too difficult for them? Want to take my kids but noticed the rating.

Perfectly fine. They'll love the interaction between Grace and Rocky.

Ok. The only thing I could think of from the book that would make the movie pg13 is potentially a sex scene or something because the book is pretty tame.

There is no sex scene in the movie. Rating is probably because of life endangering scenes and a few glimpses at dead bodies.

MGM’s PROJECT HAIL MARY is a love letter to life, in all forms. Ryan Gosling elevates and illuminates every scene, as he often does.
This has all the ingredients to become a blockbuster hit. Would be out-of-this-world to see the $200M+ sci-fi flick follow the star path that THE MARTIAN ($630M) and GRAVITY ($723M) did.
For MGM/Amazon it officially launches their big budget theatrical dreams—the stardust cinema era. One small step for theatrical, one giant leap for MGM. Gotta stick that landing.

I’m predicting an incredibly low drop from week 1 to week 2. Word of mouth will really help this one and they have IMAX until the Mario movie releases April 1.

Just got out of the theater. What an outstanding film.

I don't know how someone could have a quarrel with this film at all. It's just plain good storytelling.
Btw - I finally saw Ex Machina just before Thanksgiving. It was compelling and thought-provoking but there's a very real chance that I lost something due to the hype a decade later.

I haven't gone to the movie theater in five years, but reserved first showing tickets for this movie

My family is going tomorrow night. Having read the book and having anticipated this movie ever since, I feel like I’m in on a secret that’s about to blow up. I think people have been waiting for big movie to land for a while. It’s probably not going to save the movie theater industry but it will at least remind people why we have them.

Great movie. Saw it earlier today. Read the book twice and the movie flew by. They stayed very true to the heart of the story and for book readers added a couple nuggets in it that maybe you wanted to see. Always wish they would have included more but it was 2.5 hours long already.
