I really like the show and the characters. Everything is intriguing enough to keep me hooked and Vince always delivers with dialogue, cinematography, and pacing.
But I really worry about the delay between seasons. This show is too slow with too little payoff to go years between seasons. The finale felt like a midseason episode. Nothing concluded for the story arc of the season, which was focused on understanding a way to reverse the joining.
A better ending would have been one more episode with Carol and Manuoso succeeding —maybe with just one like Rick or Zosia— and learning what the hive would do in that event. Like either changing their frequency or killing the unjoiner or abandoning Carol and Manuoso permanently. I don’t know…it ended with the two characters agreeing to save the world. We already knew they both wanted to do that six episodes ago.
Again, I’m fine with the season if I knew season 2 was coming in August. The idea of waiting for this show to return maybe-sometime in 2027 is a big hindrance to me continuing to care about it.

I didn’t mind the concept. I rolled my eyes every episode at the woke white female as the protagonist… suspending disbelief was a chore in this one. Alien virus stacked - humanity fricked if real life.

Gilligan stated that originally he came up with the idea 10 yrs ago & also imagined Carol to be a man, but because he wanted to do something with Rhea Seehorn, and I suspect The last man on Earth had already been a show. It made sense to alter that a bit.

You could apply any groupthink to the theme of the show but the last episode definitely seemed to me to trend toward religion with the girl in Peru taking what could be interpreted as a Eucharist and Zosia/the Hive's insistence on converting Carol.

I took that as a cosplaying show just to make the little girl feel like she’s coming of age or whatever that custom ritual was. It was for her benefit, not the hives.

How is she “woke”?

I thought this all was powerfully shown in contrast to post-joining. All that show and pretense was dropped the moment she was joined. The life she thought they would lead was no longer needed.

After a couple of episodes, I'd say so far, so good.
It's got a real Invasion of the Body Snatchers vibe...

He's from Paraguay, about 1500 miles south of Peru.
The Peruvian girl at the beginning of the episode is some form of Chekhov's Gun.

I have to say that the show hasn't inspired me to take a deep dive into physics or fission theory. I just munch popcorn, relax and watch...
Kind of like I don't think much about salary caps when watching pro sports.

Anyone have Roku and the screen saver that scrolls down the street through a movie themed city?
The other day I just happened to notice one of the buildings had a sign with Hello Carol on it.
Just looked, it’s still there

So, no answer? It’s a pretty simple question.

In VG's style, he's making it where nobody is a likeable character. They are all sinners. Which plays into the Garden of Eden theme he has built.
A lot of us have been wondering how this lasts 4 seasons (which Gilligan said was his aim). I think most of the show's drama is going to come from the normies using the hive against each other.
We're not going to end up with just 2 or 3 against the hive. Carol and Manny will find a way to stop the hive from converting the other normies, continue working to returning the world to normal, and then the other normies will use the hive to fight back.
We had the one (Peruvian?) girl willingly convert. I think the Indian woman wants to as well, so Manousos/Carol will have to act fast to stop it. Diabate (from Mauritania, not France) is a swing option. All of the east Asian normies were elderly, and probably wouldn't be much help in a fight against the hive (but useful in shooing away giraffes).
So I think a lot of the series is going to end up being:
-Manny 100% against the hive, absolutely no wavering
-Carol mostly against the hive but occasionally iffy if she thinks that they might be harmed. This almost exclusively because of Pirate Lady (pussy is undefeated).
-Diabate very much against joining the Hive, but will fight hard against going back to normal
-Indian woman wanting everyone to join. She wants to join her family, and seemed a bit Karen-ish enough to happily help them convert everyone.
Another thing that just occurred to me: the hive can't lie. But if one of the normies converts, do they have disclose that to the others? Like if the normies have another in-person meeting, and the Indian lady joins the hive right before...

Why will it take two years to get another season? This doesn't look like production is anything crazy. Its usually just people standing around. They should be able to have a new 8-9 episode season ready to go every fall. That should be easy to do.

3. She has opinions.

Is that jacked up car in front of the Roku movie theater from Ferris Beuller?
