Tough to decide. Both great..
At first I would have said Platoon rather easily......but FMJ hasnt aged as much...

i think i'm going to go FMJ
i don't like the narration of platoon, nor the over the top nature of some things (like willam defoe's jesus pose)

First half of FMJ. The rest is meh.

Platoon felt more complete (and powerful) to me as a war film. Full Metal Jacket is still very good.

Full Metal Jacket falls apart completely once Joker and the rest of the gang enters Vietnam. Platoon is the better film and is much more effective at getting its anti-war agenda across than Full Metal Jacket.

I used to think that - the 1st half was great and as a kid you loved it.
I don't know, now I really like and appreciate the direction and where the film goes in the 2nd half. It's not a tidy flick.
Platoon feels too Oscary - not necessarily bad - but like a stageplay version of Vietnam.

For me, I would watch FMJ over Platoon. Both great films though.
I will say this though; My godfather was a Vietnam vet and watched Platoon and completely freaked out and lost it. My dad had to go over and stay with him for a couple days.

R. Lee Ermey was great considering his relative lack of experience as an actor. Then again, he did play a drill instructor...not exactly reaching.

First half of Full Metal Jacket >>>>> Platoon >>>>> Second half of Full Metal Jacket

That's my problem with Oliver Stone. His movies feel way too over the top, contrived and staged at times and almost none of his movies have any replay value. Platoon really hasn't aged that well compared to some of the really great movies about Vietnam such as Apocalypse Now and The Deer Hunter.
