Perfect Bittersweet endings to a movie (spoilers)

For some reason I was thinking back to the Butterfly Effect. I think the movie is solid, nothing outstanding, but the ending I think stuck the landing
Basically the whole movie is Ashton Kutcher going into alternate universes of his life if he had changed things for the better in his past, only to realize every alternate universe would lead to a worse outcome for either himself or his childhood love.
The brilliant bittersweet ending being that he comes to the conclusion that the only future in which he and his love could ever live a happy life is if they never met each other at all, and thus changes his childhood by never meeting at all. Cut to the very end of the movie where we see him for the first time living a successful life, walking down NYC streets wearing a suit on his phone. At this moment he passes by his love walking down the street, also in business atire, and the only time in the film we see her adult life not in complete shambles. They share a brief “do I know you?” look before shrugging and continuing their walk in opposite directions before getting lost in the sea of people on a busy New York day.
Brilliant bittersweet ending that elevates the film

Butterfly Effect so perfectly captures the early 00s pop culture vibe, between the actors, the atmosphere, the over-the-top angst / edginess. it's such a guilty pleasure for me. it's a basically "Nu Metal: The Movie"
agreed, i think it has a pretty solid ending.

I think La La Land is a good example. That ending montage with their alternative life together is a gut punch but kind of beautiful in its own way.
That movie holds up.

i'm not a fan of Hollywood diddling themselves in movies about Hollywood, but i greatly enjoyed this one.
Moonlight over La La Land is probably the greatest travesty in the last 10 years outside of Karla Sofía Gascón not winning this year.

Is it watchable even for someone that hates musicals?
Also does anyone else think that Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind ripped off butterfly effects ending? Lol

i wouldn't say i hate musicals, but i sure don't seek them out.

my list of liked musicals is Les Mis, La La Land, and Greatest Showman (solely for the music, it's a ridiculous movie.)
my wife will occasionally watch Momma Mia, Grease, WSS, Moulin Rouge, etc. when it's on Pluto or something and I will find yardwork to do.

Dead Poet's Society. Bitter and intensely emotional.
