Only focus on ORIGINAL, NEW stories.

That wont cut it

They had a built in audience that wanted so desperately to pass on their love of the Skywalker tale to their children. They took that and openly mocked these people

They fixed it to where there is no faith in the force anymore. Anyone can do anything with it. And you simply cannot bring back Han, Leia for sure, and Luke. But they better resurrect Luke for damn sure in Ep IX, because a Rey hero story is not turning this franchise around.

Tone deaf?

How many people in the world read Marvel comics? Not nearly as many that go to their movies. Yet the movies were made as a way of attracting the fanboys

You make another fanboy SW movie, and the rest of the world will go to see it

I think they made (Solo) and were planning to make a bunch of movies that no one really cared about seeing (ok, well I'd like to see a Kenobi film).

They are bringing back Lando.

Let’s see how they ruin him.

He will likely die a pointless and meaningless death.

Seems to be the theme.

They had a good chance to clean house and recast Luke, Leia, and Han if they picked and chose from the books and comics and went from a few years after RotJ.

Or codified what stays in as backstory and picked up with Jedi Knights Jacen and Jaina and padowans Anakin and Ben.

They could've have tightened up and removed Kevin J Anderson from the EU.

If Holdo gets y'all, Daala Imperial Admiral of Incompetence/Republic Grand Leader would've made you scream.

Fans boycotted the wrong movie.
while I agree with the sentiment, and I have heard Solo is a passable film, it was the next movie.

It is always the next movie that feels the heat.

And even though SJWs have read this protest as against white male leads, Disney is not stupid. They know this is blowback from a terrible terrible movie.

Yeah, I get that. I'm just pointing out how ineffective the boycott was. We're getting change, but it's not good change. I wish the boycott would've targeted IX instead, because I wanted an Obi-Wan movie with Ewan McGregor and no George Lucas.

If they know, and maybe they do, the way they're handling it is quite peculiar.

For reference I think Spider-Man who was doing over 100k per month on his solos before One More Day is now doing numbers somewhere between 60-75k on a good month and marvel refuses to release digital sales last I heard.

So you take the top end of that. Charge 10ish bucks a ticket and fanboy comic readers are worth a gross of 750kish by themselves. Of course they'll drag their kids and all that. But the baseline for fanboys can be pretty dismal. Even considering repeat views.

This is the first Star Wars anything I haven’t seen opening weekend and I’m still yet to see Solo. Every time I think I want to go see it I think of something else I would rather do despite hearing that it is a solid effort.

8 just put a really bad taste in my mouth and I don’t want to give them more money. I will probably not even see 9 in the theater unless word of mouth is fantastic and I don’t see that happening. I just don’t see any truly likeable characters in this new group.

I disagree. VIII was a train wreck but you could still make a great Star Wars film with Rey as the protagonist. You just can't have shitty writing.

I think the word "boycott" is misleading.

There are some people boycotting - which essentially means purposely not supporting something to induce change. There are a lot more people in this group, which represent a lot more money than some want to admit. But its not so large a group that it would directly induce change. Still not a good long term strategy to have a core group that should be spending money to support you actively against you.

But more to the point, the bigger issue is that there are a lot more people like me - I'm not boycotting - I'm just not interested. And I am a serious Star Wars fan. Things that don't interest me won't get my precious time or money. Nor will they be things I share and promote with my kids - because that time is precious too and there are plenty of things that are more enjoyable. Heck - we're about to see Incredibles 2 for the second time.

Disney is seriously risking the long term profitability of this investment due making its core audience disinterested.
