Yes they must know. Which is odd to cancel what is doing generally well. I have to wonder if they are doubling down amd proceeding just to piss off us fans of the OT. Maybe they figure the new generation will buy into it regardless of the resistance of 40-something year olds.

I heard they're making the Marvel movies exceptionally good just to they can afford to make the Star Wars movies extra shitty.

Just my guess, but its too late to stop the train (derailment) that is Episode IX. So they are moving full steam ahead with it.
They may either want to do a full reassessment of the direction/timing of the next movies. Or if indeed there is a new head, they may want that person to make the decisions rather than have them locked into Obi-wan movie that they wouldn't have approved.
