Confusing mess?
Yea most decent movies that cover history are going to be confusing for idiots.
My BFF asked me before the movie which war we dropped the bomb in. “Vietnam”?
FML.

I know you weren’t replying to me and I’m about as conservative as they come - but my two cents are the movie effectively explored all the nuances of those in opposition to Oppenheimer. From how he got on the bad side of Truman and others for questioning the future of nuclear weapons, to Teller’s basically disavowing him for their differing beliefs (and for Teller wanting to proceed with H-bomb development and being rewarded for it), to how Oppenheimer’s past relationships with known and suspected communists was an albatross around his neck, just to name a few.
To me, the film just stated those things as facts (which they were) and offered no commentary on whether they were right or wrong…only demonstrating the effects they had on Oppenheimer. Some may view it differently.

On a movie completely about Oppenheimer, of course you sort of few his actions somewhat favorable. But the movie pulled no punches about his character. So it is very fair, it basically shows the facts. Not sure how anyone can truly have a complaint.

I give it an 8.5/10. The main reason it's not a 9/10 is due to the moment everyone was waiting for, and was hyped up by even Nolan himself, was 'meh' at best. Everything else was awesome, and the ending was thought-provoking

Exactly. I thought it showed equal sides of his brilliance and his foibles and downright faults, and leaves the viewer to decide what they take away from it. Hero, anti hero, reliable narrator, imperfect genius, dilettante, questionable parent, philanderer, and so on. This isn’t a “by the numbers” hero story.

Lol

How many bombs did you build for the U.S. to knowingly use against our enemies? None? You’re less a patriot than him.

Idontcare how close it was. The execution on Truman was way off. Truman reminded me of the rooster in looney tunes

Saw it last night and loved it. The scene where he’s giving the speech after the first bomb was dropped and how the rumbling of the crowd parallels the bomb impact / fallout was awesome. Ending was spot on and wrapped it up perfectly.

Saw it last night. Couple of things.
The Trinity Explosion was great.
Wanted to see the bombs dropped off a plane on Hiroshima and Nagasaki but knowing Hollywoods politics not surprising.
Didn't expect the loudest scene of the movie to be when they were stomping on the bleachers

It wasn’t about politics. It was to show you they didn’t need him anymore. He had given them what they wanted and the bomb was no longer his. A common theme leading up to that moment and carried out to completion in the final third.

We all know what happened to Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It wouldn’t have served the story whatsoever to show that. I thought it was way more impactful to show Oppenheimer asking Groves if he should go to Washington with him after the bomb was built, and Groves asking him “why?”
That was more of what the story was about. And then him waiting around by the phone for Groves to call.

Right. They had used him for his purpose and then discarded him.
It wasn’t about the bombs, it was about Oppenheimer.
We got to see what happened to people when the bombs dropped through his waking nightmares, and his guilt.

And Nolan nailed this aspect. Tone of movie and people around Oppenheimer after the bomb was ready to go completely changed.

Gotta say how surprised I am that I did not like this movie.

Except it wasn’t. You just said yourself you dont care how accurate it was then proceeded to say it wasn’t accurate.
What?

To me, the bomb test in the movie was authentic. It didn’t feel like some Avengers get together because it isn’t supposed to. The movie is about Oppenheimer and not the bombs.

What struck me was that the score never stopped the entire movie, there was constant sound.
Until…that moment. Silence. And then the bang. It made the scene so incredibly visceral and effective.

Exactly. I hate using cliches but the silence in that scene was deafening. Everything in that scene and after the fact was executed to perfection.
