Went last night. Good movie! Nowhere near a “modern classic” or “generation defining epic” like the reviews make it out to be. It’s not even in PTA’s Top 3 lol. Very enjoyable though.

It’s incredibly well made in all technical aspects. Sound designer needs to win an Oscar. Tons of great shots. It was too long, though surprisingly well paced given the length. They just needed to trim the fat by about 20-30min.

It’s a really quirky movie with lots of absurdist humor, more than I expected. Will probably catch a lot of people off guard. It’s like a high octane Big Lebowski

And no, it’s not some subversive leftist manifesto. While the movie definitely sympathizes with the left, it’s very self deprecating and pokes fun at both sides in equal measure. Some of the “revolutionaries” are fat neckbeard slobs LOL and many of them are incompetent hypocrites. Pretty much everyone sucks

Regina Hall was excellent in her small role, as was Danvers (the interrogator). I looked him up after and he's not even an actor, he's a DHS guy

No joke my theater had the video cut out right before the climax of the 3rd act for about 5 minutes so it’s possible he’s telling the truth

I don’t think these two things are mutually exclusive. PTAs resume is incredible.

It’s too soon for me to place this across his other work yet, want to see another rewatch, but it’s up there for me for sure.

Yep, his first real acting credit. His only other credit is some docuseries

Just got out. Wasn't as impressed as I hoped to be, though it wasn't bad. Sean Penn was by far the best part of the movie. I don't remember the last Penn performance I enjoyed like this. It's been years.

Don't let anyone tell you it mocks the left and right equally, though. The "right" white males are (on-purpose) cartoonishly villainous, which was often LOL funny and led to some of the best bits. The "left" heroes are almost universally shades of brown and are clearly the good guys, though they get some mockery as well, highlighting some of their hypocrisy, arrogance, and naivete . I just couldn't get emotionally invested in our protagonists - no one was very likable.

I also don't think there is any need to see this on an IMAX screen, if anyone is wondering

So I went to the afternoon show in Bible built East Texas, and needless to say about an hour, and all the gray hairs left

Thank you.

I watched it last night and I did not think it was great. I was never really bored, but it’s not a movie I care to ever watch again.

I thought it was kind of obvious he was not an actor watching the movie... he did a good job though...

I refuse to believe that you thought an actor, acting in a movie, was not an actor by trade.

I think it was quite obvious IMO... He seemed like a military/law enforcement type they pulled off the street...

he was a bit stiff in that role... and just came off as a non-actor.. not really that hard to comprehend..

I thought he was perfect for the role. He didn’t have to act.
