Agreed. You could argue that this film was made for his own gratification and nostalgia, and that he included little to develop any kind of story.

You could say this about most of his movies.

pretty much what i was thinking the whole time.

It was decent, but it has to go on the lower tier list of QT's films.
But even QTs worst film is better than 90% of the crap being churned out these days. The soundtrack (as always) was amazing and the visuals (as always) as well.
Pitt was great, and it was awesome to see Leo and Brad in the same film.
About how I felt about it too. I liked it enough, but probably will never rewatch it. I was disappointed in it, but still liked it OK if that makes sense.

I don’t agree with this at all. The story line may meander in his other films, some more than others, but there’s something there. All the references and the acting are great, but if you say that you don’t realistically spend 2+ hours of the movie wondering what’s going on, you may be lying to yourself. I’ve seen all of his films, and I’ve never had that feeling while watching any of them other than this one.

What kind of convertible was Cliff Booth driving?

Kind of like how your favorite band puts out their 10th album and you like it, but it isn't anywhere near their great stuff they put out 15 years ago.

Just like I absolutely felt there was something here. Much more so than in Kill Bill or IB, for me. This story didn't work where others did for you. There is no objective decline here. From my perspective this movie is a reprieve from his decade-long decline, starting with IB.
I don't think IB is bad or anything, but I think it employs wonderfully written dialogue and great characters in service of lacking story, much like many feel about Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Well, we’re talking movies, so not much objectivity exists. Personally, IB blows Once Upon A Time... out of the water, but we have different opinions. : cheers:

Once Upon lacks in all 3 compared to IB

Yep, the dialogue was very disappointing in Once Upon.

I agree and I like once upon a time. IB is one of his better movies IMO.

It looked like a hopped 1960 Karmann Ghia roadster. I had to look it up. It’s a vw brand

1960 VW Karmann Ghia. Here's one in black:

I knew it was a vw brand, but I couldn’t remember the model without looking it up. My neighbor had one when I was a kid. It’s a air cooled engine.

I agree with both of these statements. Disappointed may be a strong word, but agree nonetheless.

I think IB is his best all around film

I'll cede the dialogue to you, but I've already said in this thread why great dialogue would make little sense with these characters.
As for the story, and without wanting to store any real IB debate, I had trouble getting anything more than wish-fulfillment catharsis from IB. QT in Once Upon a Time and interested in the way we people handle losing a grip on what makes them special as they age. I think that's a potent idea. I think that's what makes the "boring" part in the middle so great. That's why I think the last 20 minutes are the most problematic part of the movie. It's undeniably entertaining, but it's hard to reconcile it with the narrative that has come before.
I do not love this movie, but I find it very interesting, and enjoy a lot of what it's doing.
Lastly, I respect that my IB opinion is a minority one. I also think blanket statements, like the one I'm responding to, are silly as hell when presented as matter of fact.

I enjoyed it. This one is more about Tarantino's penchant for storytelling, so those expecting a bunch of over-the-top blood and violence and craziness like most QT films offer are going to be disappointed up until the last 15 minutes or so. I really enjoyed the slow burn and all of the lead-up; it seemed like the first 2 hours flew by. Actually, I didn't care for the ending as much as many posters in this thread seem to have. The girl screaming and splashing all around in the pool was just a little much and too cheesy imo, but hey, it's Tarantino so it's to be expected. I also didn't care for the scene where Leo went to Italy and Kurt Russell was doing the voiceover. Other than that, solid film. I personally was more impressed by Leo's performance than Pitt's, although I can definitely understand why so many preferred Pitt.
