I guess you are right, but I viewed that more as Floki didn't trust the preist. He seems openly resentful of Ragnar.

No major arteries there along the back as long as you don't go to deep with the Axe when breaking the ribs.

Supposedly, the blood eagle caused the victim to die from suffocation not blood loss.

Best show on TV right now. History channel is knocking it out of the park every week.

There seems to be lots of debate as to whether the blood eagle was actually practiced.

It seemed like everyone witnessing it thought Ragnar might be enjoying it a little too much. His sadism is proof of his growing hubris, which will be the root of his undoing. As we are seeing by Floki's growing distaste for anything Ragnar. Ragnar is dishing out the pain a bit too casually, and it has to bounce back on him.

Did anyone else catch the scene where Ragnars current wife approached floki's now wife about her concerns about her current pregnancy? I can't remember for sure if it was to floki's wife or not but I remember her expressing concern about her pregnancy and stating something along the lines that she didn't feel right or she was hurting or some shite.

Anyone think that she may die from child birth complications? I don't know the history behind all of this but if any history buffs do, does she die from child birth complications?

Also, if Ragnars wife is a princess, who is the king/queen and if she passed, does this lead to Ragnar becoming a king of somewhere? Doesn't he become king at some point in history? Is it because of his marriage to his current wife or because he's just a bad arse mofo and takes and gets what he wants?

I think it would be difficult to do it such that the victim would remain conscious and suffer for very long. Even if you managed to keep him awake and avoid puncturing the lungs while you're chopping the ribs away from the spine, it's all over once you pull the lungs out. I think he'd bleed out during the chopping.

That said, Jarl Borg took it like a man; he barely flinched throughout it all.

He had to. According to last nights episode, If he cried out in pain, he wouldn't enter Valhalla.

Ragnar was getting even with him for double crossing him. It sent a powerful message.

I like this show, but I can't figure out how Ragnar's first wife was able to leave her (now dead) second husband with an army subtantial enough to help Ragnar in his time of need.

Seems like a king would notice if 100 of his soldiers went missing.

My take when she killed her husband and the 2nd in command seemed ok with it was "You killed my leader but I'll let you live because I'm leader now." But if she has men and ships I don't think she took them, I think she took her husband's place. Women do seem to have a little higher station in Viking society.

I'm still a little confused about where the bad blood between Floki and Ragnar comes from. Ragnar didn't even attend the wedding. Even if there was a falling out it seems like you'd try and keep things cordial with your top ship builder.

You must have missed the part where she killed him.

I took it to mean that in the Viking world if you kill the leader you become the leader. So she became Earl in his place. Kind of like a king and queen relationship.

Floki is like Rollo. He has envy issues with Ragnar. Now Ragnar was not there at the wedding because he was not invited. Also Floki has strange religious views and he sees Ragnar as unfaithful to the gods for his role with the priest.
