Alright, I wasn't around for the in-game conversation on the show. I'm currently rewatching the pilot with subtitles on. I'm really intrigued by Rust's inability to sleep at night. I wonder if we'll get little screenshots to back when he was in Texas or married.

I hope they get his records unsealed. We haven't even scratched the surface of his character yet.

I loved the conversation he had about Man being self aware and his ego destroying the world. Dude is waaaay out there.
And I love it.
And I love it.

Did you know that he originally read for Woody's character and after a day of finding out what Rust was all about, he went to Pizzolatto and said "I want this guy."

That's interesting because me and the wife were saying we could see either actor playing either role, both of those guys have definitely played unhinged before.

I just watched the episode and I'm kind of confused about the ending...
...why was the Voodoo stick figure thing in their shed? And how the 2 detectives were questioning Rust and showed him a picture of another victim? Is the victim from 2012? So is there another killer on the loose?

That's kind of a scary combination.

Yes the new victim is from 2012. And presumably not another killer on the loose. The same killer. It infers they got the wrong guy in 95.

We don't know about the stick figure yet but the new victim is from 2012. They either caught the wrong guy in 95 or there's a copycat

I could see Martin wanting to arrest the wrong guy just to close the case and get a raise, promotion, etc. and that not sitting well with Rust. I think that and Martin cheating with the paralegal and Rust with Martin's wife being another part of the downfall of their partnership.

Plus, I can tell you that Rust brings a girl on a double date with Martin and his wife.

Indeed. When the detectives showed the second murder, he isn't surprised, and he completes the defectives sentence when he says "how did it happen again if we locked him up" or whatever, followed by the smug "how, indeed?" Ending with "start askin the right frickin questions" all but confirms this.
he also said something of the sort like "well that is what the Advertiser(the newspaper) thought happened (or reported)"... I forgot the exact qupte
im in the camp that he knows they didnt get the right person the first time. It was a cover up, or the media/police chief was pushing them to find a killer. Also thought of the West Memphis 3 stuff(someone had mentioned that earlier, briefly)

This might be the best premiere I have ever seen.
Yea, I'm thinking Rust knows they put away the wrong man. Rust is going to be an interesting character.

Thanks for posting; looks great.
Definitely think this show and The Americans will do a good job holding me over until Season 4 of Game of Thrones starts.

Rust is the killer.

Another theory that would be cheesy as hell.
