Also, on rewatch, Hangman is such a great great character

He’s unapologetically cocky and toxic.

I think this is the best summer blockbuster movie, since Infinity War at least.

If this was all people were saying I wouldn’t be nearly as worked up. I still don’t agree, but it’s not a completely insane thing to say.

are you really in here acting like terminator 2 is some amazing movie?

As far a summer blockbuster action type movies go, yes.

It would be ridiculous to compare this movie to There Will Be Blood or something.

and there we have it.

You have to admit it- people react differently to different styles of movies. We can stumble into perhaps the greatest drama ever filmed, and leave the theater saying "that was a good movie. Thought-provoking. I'll probably watch that again, and try to see what that one part early on really meant, once I digest it".

Summer blockbuster is a different animal, we want to be thrilled, excited, made to say WOW and frick YEAH! a lot. Wandered into Star Wars films, MCU, etc, looking for that. A lot of times we get mildly (or more) disappointed... that was cool to look at but dry, or this built things up but didn't quite satisfy, etc.

This one took the hype, the expectations, and Tom Cruise put a product on screen that did it's damnedest to get you excited and keep you there. Gave us just enough humanity for Maverick that you feared he would die, and then he pulls one last trick out of his hat to finish it off. Then, he's done his job, and everyone can relax and smile for him.
Those are invariably our 'favorite movies ever' at the time, it might last a month or year. And it will always hold a spot in our hearts, even when we acknowledge it wasn't the best.

Please, go on for several more pages repeating the same shite and telling us how stupid we all are for loving this movie and thinking it's awesome. That would really help the thread keep going and is really fun content to read.

They aren't. I clicked on the thread because I noticed the thread had grown by several pages and so I wanted to read more discussion about the movie. yet instead I got to see you say the same thing over and over for the Nth time in a row.

But at least it makes sense with what LB said...if this is all for attention, then you've gotten exactly what you wanted. So congrats, I guess.

Yes expressing an opinion you don’t like = looking for attention

That y’all resort to personal attacks over a movie is pathetic btw

That's one hell of a leap. I'm fine with you expressing an opinion that doesn't match mine...NBD there. We can even discuss it and disagree and it's all good. The "looking for attention" part is you incessantly repeating yourself page after page. And I'm not the one that brought it up anyway...LB did. But what he said makes sense as to why you're still at it.

And personal attacks?

For real tho, I keep coming back to this thread to read other people's thoughts on the movie who may have just seen it and here he is constantly being a douche.

You're point has been made, can you please move on?

T2 isn't exactly Citizen Kane, neither is Aliens. I don't see why it's such a big deal to compare this Top Gun sequel to them

In fact, these are extremely apt comparisons. The later Alien and Terminator films dropped off significantly in quality and staying power, but that first sequel - T2 arguably as good as T1 and perhaps superior in some, limited ways.

Can't really say that about Aliens versus the OG Alien (other than it is more fun and rewatchable while keeping the tension and tone), but it was certainly a great movie its own way. I think that's where Maverick will be in relation to the original Top Gun.
