Because most of the theatre would be wondering why the pilots look like they are taking a huge shite during the flight scenes. The same reason why they re-did the briefing for the mission on the carrier as if the pilots forgot it. Audiences are dumb and need to be reminded of stuff.

I am not versed in aviation, but I took it as he was questioning why the wings were like that for takeoff, as in they should have been out (or whichever way was opposite of how they were) and that Mav did it specifically for their short take off to get over the wall/debris.
I loved it when Rooster said "do some of that pilot shite!" which of course is similar Goose said to Mav in the first one.

Mav didn’t register any kills since the first movie? He got 3 kills in a random oopsy in the mid 80’s and couldn’t wipe out some Iraqi fighter pilots in 1991? (It was mentioned in the movie that he served in both Gulf Wars and Afghanistan - tying the Top Gun universe to ours

Iraqi pilots mainly bugged out to Iran in the first Gulf War, and their air force was knocked out in the first few days of Iraqi Freedom while sitting on the ground).
This is pretty much spot on. Our air superiority was put on display for those 4 days in February of '91.

but it's getting ripped by fighter pilots for the dialouge and plot already. Just not realistic at all.
—-not true. The first 2 reviews from combat pilots I watched on youtube were glowing.
—as to the unnamed rogue country using uranium illegally…it’s not hard to connect the dots. We sold F-14s to Iran in the 70s.

That turned out better than I was expecting and the flying was awesome!
Was I the only one that was a little disappointed that during the mission briefing, no one asked how many Bothans were lost getting the intel or something like that? That was the first thing that popped in my head after they described going through a canyon with AA all over the place and have to get the bomb through a relatively small hole.

Can you imagine what the new Star Wars movies would’ve been if they gave those the same treatment that Cruise & Co. gave Top Gun: Maverick? Now I don’t think Hamil could’ve pulled off what Cruise did and own the whole movie but still, Top Gun: Maverick just gave a master-class on how to respect and build on the source material.

She's almost 54, but the point remains.

Yea, I watched one where a guy said everything they did in the F18s he had done himself. They also said of course there were Hollywood moments but overall they loved the movie

This Gulf War engagement was Top Gun Worthy
quote:
USN F/A-18s vs. IQAF MiG-21s
Four F/A-18Cs from VFA-81 'Sunliners' were on a mission to strike H3 airfield. While en route, an E-2C AEW alerted them to the presence of two Iraqi MiG-21s. Lt. Cdr. Mark Fox quickly locked on to one off the MiGs, and launched an AIM-9 Sidewinder. Fox lost sight of the missile, and followed with an AIM-7. The AIM-9 brought down the MiG, with the AIM-7 hitting the falling wreckage. Piloting another of the F/A-18s was Nick Mongillo, who downed the other MiG with an AIM-7. In forty seconds, the F/A-18s had shot down both MiGs without jettisoning their bombs.[11]

I loved it. Absolutely loved it. Was it a perfect movie? Absolutely not, but what someone said before was spot on. It was way better than it had any business being. I only had 1 issue, but it wasn't a major 1. I understand why they couldn't use Raptors for the mission, but why couldn't they use them after for support? Why send an F18 to fight?

Went today and was impressed. It actually lived up to the hype. Very exciting while playing to the original. Well done.

I think he knew about the wings, I think is concern was why they were moving at that moment in time.

Badass movie. Was hoping “take my breathe away” would play when mav and Penny were together. Would have been super nostalgic AF.

2nd viewing in the books. Watched it in a normal theater this time and it’s still just as good as large formats. Can’t wait for the 4K Blu-ray to come out.
eta: there are a couple of guys in the intro that kinda do a handshake and a "jig" that might be rememberable in the future.

Thought I read that she was born in '68. I must've misread.
