That's valid. Essentialy, I think it was a decision on the part of the filmmakers to emphasize his "selfless crusader" identity.

I suppose they could have had the police discover misleading evidence falsely linking Batman to the murders, but I think that would have been a bit cliche.

I hear ya man. Not that I have any better idea on how to do it. It was just a feeling I left the theater with that I couldn't figure out. Still the best movie I've seen in quite a while.

I brought this up in another thread and no one has responded, so does anyone know anything about Alfred's history as a bounty hunter or whatever? Was that always in the Batman story, or is that a new development from Nolan?

For the people who watched TDK a second time, what are some of the things I should pay more attention to the second time around?

I didnt really catch all the references as to how the Joker got some of these minions to do his bidding. Many of them are from Arcam and are crazy.

I felt disappointed the first time I watched it for some reason. Dunno, maybe wasnt in the mood. However, watching Nolan redefine what comic book movies are supposed to be about is the most rewarding aspect of it. The opening sequence lays it all out there...do not expect Spiderman or some shite.

It did cause problems with me because I had to detach myself from the film and ask whether it REALLY was a comic book movie. it is because the violence and carnage that is on display is the complete opposite to what we are accustomed to. There was always this unwritten rule about how violence and justice resolved itself.

What else can be said about Ledger's performance that hasnt been said already. Inspired, engrossing, spectacular. But even better is the way that his character was constructed by Nolan...he wasnt working with Mike Bay material.

The Maggie G bashing is quite out of hand. Sure she aint the hottest chick in Hollwoood, but you had to give Rachel the same look...which Maggie has in a indirect way. As far as her acting, she is better than Katie Holmes(how she got on the first one I have no idea)

She just does it for me for some reason. She looked smokin' in Donnie Darko and Stranger than Fiction I think. She has a different look than most of the dime a dozen hollywood actresses.

And not to be picky, but it would have been awesome if TDK would have maybe been less complex and just added more one on one or other closer dialogue and spotlight on the Joker. You could pretty much just made the whole movie about Joker going against Batman without alot of the other periphery characters.

Her acting was one of the film's apparent weakness. Either give us some eye candy or someone who can act, I'm more concerned about that than vague appearance continuity.

finally made it out to see this. Incredible movie. I had really high expectations and it was better then I thought it would be. I was completely blindsided on several occasions with the plot. The Joker is incredible, just a really good movie.

Just got back from seeing it. Great movie. One question which might have been answered but I am not going to read 21 pages of posts: When they had to make the choice between Rachel and Dent, Batman said he was going for Rachel, which would mean that the officers would go for Dent, right? Batman then rescues Dent and both locations explode - was she at a 3rd location or did the Joker lie about who was at which location?

The Joker lied, and switched their locations because he knew Batman would have wanted to save Rachel.

Joker knew he would rescue Rachel, so he intentionally sent Batman off to really rescue Dent instead by reversing the addresses. Rachel was at the place the cops were headed, they were just too late to save her.

Ok, finally saw the movie..my only comments on it are...make sure you DON'T drink the large soda during this flick...I had to concentrate more on not pissing my pants than on what was actually happening in the movie- therefore i missed a lot of the small twists...

I'll have to watch it again on a dry bladder.

Def worth my $8.75, but I'll refrain from the $5 DP next time.

Michael Caine calls TDK "one of the best movies ever made"

quote:

Caine can’t imagine ‘Dark Knight’ follow-up
Creating a record-breaking, blockbuster installment of a well-loved film franchise poses one big problem. How do you top it?

Michael Caine, who plays Bat-butler Alfred Pennyworth in “The Dark Knight,” says it won’t be easy.

“I think this one will be such a success, it will be difficult to do a sequel because we've done one and we've topped it, obviously, and now we've got to top this,” Michael said in an interview with WENN. “That is difficult. That is difficult because we've already broken the box office (record) in American movie history. We've got to break our own record. It's hard.”

The veteran actor explained that the problem lies in the fact that “The Dark Knight” isn’t simply the finest “Batman” ever made, but “it's one of the best movies” ever made.

Damn, those dudes work cheap.

I thought it was about 30 minutes too long. There were too many climaxes--they put too much into it and it felt cumbersome to me. It was very good, but it didn't flow well enough to be great. I think if Ledger hadn't died, some of his scenes might have wound up on the cutting room floor.

I can see how one can think of it as being cumbersome, but Ledger's death or not, I really can't see how they can remove much of anything without dramatically dimminishing the final product.

Everything tied together perfectly with cause and effect, and any other ending would have left an incrediably annoying cliffhanger for a movie whose conclusion we won't see for 2+ years. Typically when they do those 2 parters the filming is done back to back ala Matrix.
