The character that he displayed in TDKR was a Robin to Batman. You didn't know that was his name and he was in a police uniform but he was still Batmans wing man in a sense even though he didn't have a cape. They gave him coordinates to the lair, that shows that Bruce wanted him to find it. He gave hints throughout the movie that anyone could be Batman and that a mask was necessary. Batman was retired and ran away and has another life with Selina just like she wanted. The final scene was to show that Gotham wasn't going to be without a Batman, even if it wasn't Bruce Wayne. But dear god don't let them make a movie with JGL as Batman. It was perfect knowing he will be Gothams Batman. Knowing is enough, I don't want to watch it.

I thought it was great. Out of the three Batman movies I still like 2 the best, just because I do feel this one could have lost 45 minutes and the broken back montage into a new and improved batman was really stupid. Bain was the most bad arse villain I can even remember in a movie. The first fight scene when he walked through Batman was really good. But he shouldn't have broken Batman's back only to have him put the bone back in and all that shite.

you can explain that if you like? When Batman was first in the pit he was paralyzed and the dr said his bone was protruding from the back.

Bane dislocated a vertebra, while extremely painfully it doesn't paralyze. He healed a little quicker than the average patient, but he's the feeaking Batman and his greatest superpower is his will.

This reminds me of how awesome it was to see his facial expressions fighting Bane the first when he knew he couldn't win but wouldn't stop until his body couldn't move.

SO I finally saw TDKR. I was on vacation in the middle of the Rockies last week, so I had better things to do. For serious.

Anyways... I am in awe....

of how mediocre that was.

Too. Much. Plot.
Shoddy. Editing.

I could go on, and I need to let it sit, I might be a little upset.

But yes, Wally Pfister is a genius. That's about all I got right now.

And remember: I love Batman. I love Batman movies (except for B&R). ANd I love Nolan. Prestige might be a Top 5 film of the past 20 years.

You're better than that. You've seen enough movies to know this offering is, on the whole, better than perfectly average.

Other than an overstuffed story, that felt like a lot of scenes ended up on the cutting room floor due to time, most everything else is top drawer.

I mean better than an everyday average yes, but mediocre in terms of what Nolan does or what he intended to do with Batman. It certainly wasn't a "great Nolan film," nor was it a "great Nolan Batman film."

But yes it's better than 80% of the movies out there.

I don't rate movies on a comparison basis though, that's pointless.

But I am extremely sensitive to narrative problems, more so than other people. If you don't have a tight story, you don't have a good story. It's that simple. NOTHING can overcome a problematic story. Nothing. (See my Lost issues).

But Wally Pfister is still awesome.

Let me rephrase and maybe make you feel better:

If I separate the movie from Nolan, from Nolan's Batverse, and from Batman as a previously exisiting character, the movie was perfectly entertaining and quite good.

I hear ya. But no, it's not a big deal. I can easily see how someone wouldn't like this movie as much as the rest of his stuff or as good as the two previous ones. I think even if this was a stand alone Batman movie, it would still be the gold standard for comic book movies. There haven't been many people in this thread actually that have truly really disliked the movie. It's been more of what you're saying, putting it simply, it's good but not great. And most people rightly so, we're expecting greatness. I for one think it delivered like a movie stork or something. Except I'd be pissed if a baby got dropped of at my door. I wouldn't mind an early copy of this DVD from the movie stork though. It's late. My illustrations have been weird lately.

JUst curious on how youfelt about Catwoman. I remember that you and I were big opponents of Catwoman being included, but I think they did it just marvelous.

I liked her presence, but not her dialog. It was too cheesy.

Agree with that. One of the things I didn't like about the film
