After sleeping on it, I was probably being overly critical last night, but those were the parts I didn't like. I will see this again, and it was not a terrible movie. BUT, in comparison to the other two films, I don't think Rises is in the same league. It just wasn't as well put together.

I disagree. I saw all three opening night in the marathon, and then saw Rises again on Saturday. I think it may be my favorite of the three. I just don't see how you can say it wasn't put together well. i also don;t see how you had to keep yourself awake during any of it.

I'm sure the creative team at WB appreciates your willingness to say that.

But, there is zero reason to believe that he would fall for her and sleep with her so quickly. He is devastated by Rachel's death. He can't move on. So, Tate picks up Rachel's picture, reminding Bruce of how much it hurts, and he automatically falls for her? It was unbelievable.
really? its unbelievable he'd frick a chick after 8 years of mourning?

I think this movie is going to sit better with a lot of people after the 2nd viewing. Many seem to be going in saying "ok wow me" instead of sitting back and enjoying the movie, which I was guilty of myself.

No way man, Batman only bangs chicks when his in a deep committed relationship.

one of my main gripes. all but Alfred were brand new characters to the trilogy coming in very late and all the sudden they are the most critical. I wish Nolan had introduced Talia earlier on maybe even in BB in a very minor role to at least build the reality that she was moving into position. Could have easily had Blake in a minor role earlier, at least in TDK and show Batman build a relationship with him earlier.
It was too forced, too late in the game and the characters didn't have enough time to really make me care all that much about them. I care about Bruce Wayne and Batman...got very little of them and most of the screen time was of them being victimized.

A lot of people are over hyping it to the point that it can only disappoint them.

It's not just the sleeping with her, it was the emotional connection and deep care that he showed for her. He was willing to leave Gotham with her and never go back. That is unrealistic in my mind.
Then again, it is just as silly to think that he'd fall for Selina and leave with her.
As theunknownknight stated, the first two movies built Bruce Wayne to be untrusting and then all of a sudden he is throwing trust/his affections around like he's a desperate loser.

How so? We saw in TDK he was trying to NOT be Batman anymore; he wanted Harvey to take over for him. This Batman persona was only to set Gotham straight again, and once they didn't need him anymore, he would leave. This was stated throughout the trilogy.

Not being well put together and bad editing are two of the most cliche response out there.

George Lucas has some suggestions...

As I have said before numerous times on this thread, his relationship with Miranda Tate was nothing more than a fling. Yeah, he cared for her, but he was also vulnerable at this stage in his life. Think on it. Here we have a man who has spent the last three years in his house, he hasn't loved or made love to another woman during that time span, and he just lost his company and all of his money. What you have is a man at his most vulnerable right there. Now in walks Miranda Tate, a woman who he has known for a while, and a woman who obviously is sexually attracted to Bruce. With Alfred leaving and everything else going on in Bruce's life at that point, doesn't it make sense that he would fall for Miranda when she was so willing to give her body to him?
And he wasn't willing to leave Gotham with Miranda, not at that moment anyway. He turned her offer down, remember?

I'm pretty sure all the head guys at WB after reading this thread are somewhere off shaking their head saying "damn you Nolan you half-assed this movie and you know it! It could have done 200mil at the box in 2d had you put it together better!" it could have been #1 on imdb's top 250 rated movies instead of a miserable 8!"

Raise your hand if you wouldn't sleep with Miranda Tate if she shows up at your house in the raring to go?

Saw it last night for the first time. Initial reaction: solid film and very enjoyable to watch. Felt a little convoluted at times with so many intertwined story lines that never really got delved into. Think this one wasn't as tight as the other two films.
Will be going to see it again some time soon. It was a lot to process.. visually, the story arc and my own feelings about the Nolan trilogy coming to an end.

yeah, he basically said "not yet." which means that he was willing to go with her once he finished his business in Gotham. Again, he was willing to spend the rest of his life with her after an extremely short amount of time. And again, the same thing can be said for Selina. He leaves Gotham to spend the rest of his life with her.
Both are unbelievable to me.
Either way, the board acting like Bruce actually threw away his stock is enough to lose me on a 2nd viewing.

I liked it even more after a second watch

I guess I can understand those being critical about not having enough Batman kicking arse, but that doens't make this anything less than a really good movie. The film takes place 8 years after the last installment, of course there will be new characters. Do you complain about all movies because they introduce new characters?
And wasn't one of you complaints about the initial reviews was that the movie had emotional moments. And you thought Batman movies shouldn't have that emotion, and now you are complaining about not caring for other characters.
Posted on 7/24/12 at 9:33 am to EarthwormJim
emotional moments are not teh same thing as writing characters and developing them so the audience cares about them. I care about Lloyd Christmas in Dumnb and Dumber but it has nothing to do with emotional moments.
