The tone of the movie wasn't nearly as big of a problem as the narrative problems IMO. I could've dealt with the tone if I didn't feel like I was watching several different movies.

This was like the Star Trek TMP of superhero films only far worse.

Being empty or abandoned was mentioned explicitly at least 4 times. I was counting because those lines were obviously shoe-horned in. It's the same issue as usual with DC films. We had to be told, not shown.
That's where Superman 2 knocked it out of the park. Superman made it clear, as an integral part of the plot, to be in places clearly abandoned.
The issue with Snyder is he wants External physical DESTRUCTION (in lue of internal character conflict) in his movies and he can't maximize on that unless there is a big city setting. So to have his cake and eat it too he destroys Gotham/Metropolis again but keeps saying "oh yeah, but it's empty THIS TIME" over and over.

Saw it late last night.
Wasn't great, wasn't terrible.
6/10. Will buy the blu-ray for the rated R version.

Again...it would be an unnecessary change to the core of the character
It would be more realistic for someone's psyche to break that way.
Sorry, not everyone wants to write character who exist in the perfect world DC bubble.

Yea, he fell asleep during the slow first half. He woke up when the Batman v Superman fight started. My kids actually said they liked it. Then they saw how pissed I was and now they don't.
My wife asked my 8 year old if he liked it and he said "I hated it because it made Daddy mad". ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

I'll also add that the dream sequence was an absolute mess. I was intrigued by that scene during the trailer, but wow, what a disaster. Did the fight choreographer walk off set and they had to pretend they knew what they were doing? Seriously, the fights were laughably bad.

So general audiences are supposed to see the Robin suit, know that this is post Killing Joke Batman, and know that he's an old jaded killer?

They need to give Affleck the reigns to the DC universe. I'd much rather see him direct justice league than Snyder.
The guy can for sure direct.

It's clear this is post killing joke batman and he's now a killer. I don't have an issue with that take.
I have an issue with the timeline. This version of Batman is not the batman that helped found the Justice League. He can't be the moral compass. He's done, morally, at this point (from what Snyder showed us).
Then, suddenly, inexplicably, at the end, Batman is lecturing Wonder Woman (a person he doesn't even really know) on the need to work together to save mankind?
Get off your soapbox.

There could have been a 3 minute scene where Alfred scolds Bruce on how he has changed after Robin's death,
Could be something in the Blu-ray cut but maybe not.

They would have had time for that had they removed the retarded dream sequences

I can see that. I think that if they'd dropped the entire Holly Hunter portion and just had some dialogue saying that Lexcorp had been contracted by the government to examine the Kryptonian tech, they could've freed up some time to give us some set-ups and segues.
You could still have Scoot McNary blow up a building to cast more doubt on Superman and freak out Wayne.

Snyder thought he could out Nolan Nolan with MoS
I think too many people completely misunderstand what Nolan did with Batman's universe. Those movies weren't "dark." They were "real."
It was, in and of itself, a new way of doing Batman, in that he took this comic book character and wondered what he'd look like if it REALLY happened. It was far more of a crime drama than a comic book movie. That's what made it "dark."
Snyder seems to have seen those movies and only saw the grim aspects of it and decided that he'd so the same thing in what is now a true comic book universe and all of this seems to suffer under that misunderstanding.
I feel like a broken record...but with the amount of stellar source material at his disposal (from campy to serious) why go rouge and make him different?

quote:I'm telling you. The characterization in this movie is either shitty or non existent. There is almost no impact when something happens, because there's no explanations for some things. It's just thoughtless nonsense at times. I understand that we know who these characters are, but that doesn't excuse you from telling the story. The movie is almost completely empty. And that wasn't my only issues. It's just bad on so many levels for me. Believe me, it makes me very sad.

I loved the character development they did with Bruce. The opening sequence with him watching Zod/Superman throw down while everyone caught in the crossfire was dying was perfect. You got to really watch his resentment grow. You got to see how he had become so cruel. I was able to relate to Affleck. I cared about him.
I hated they didn't do more with Superman. Someone who values life as much as him would've been so conflicted when people were coming after him saying he often does more harm than good. I think he would've struggled with that a lot more.
Nobody else really was given enough to be developed at all. Lois and Lex most notably come to mind. I wish they'd been in the movie less. I wanted this movie to be about Batman and Superman, but so much got in the way of that.

We're talking about the billionaire who trained his whole life to be a human weapon and fight crime as retribution for seeing his parent's killed? Dressed as a bat? We're now expecting realism...?

Can someone please explain the dream sequence to me?
I get the hints of darksied ..
Since Superman is a Jesus like figure , are they making batman a prophet? now he can see the future?
Batman is going to turn into that "aliens" guy meme.. only with more arse-kickery

How many movies do you watch a year bro? I didn't think it was great either, but c'mon. There's worse shite that gets thrown our way every single year.
I'll admit Adam Sandler probably makes worse movies, but I haven't seen one of his since Funny People.
