$370m on a $750,000 budget is crazy. Other than a cast of unknown actors, you can’t tell it was made so cheaply.
It releases on digital VOD tomorrow. Well worth the $20 rental, but I would say go see it in theaters if you still can. Tomorrow is discount day at must chains.

It's streaming tomorrow, June 30th on Amazon and Apple tv. Probably a $30 new release rental.

It's a very "small" movie in that most of the plot takes place in Bear's house and the two leads carry the film on their backs and are phenomenal doing it. As I stated in another post about this movie, it's hands down the best acting I've seen in a horror movie since Hereditary.

I rarely go to the theaters these days, and I saw how high of a rating this movie had on IMDB, and it did NOT disappoint. I left saying to myself that it was not only one of the best horror movies I've ever seen, but maybe one of the best movies in general!

My wife doesn’t like horror movies, and I’d like to see it. Is more if a psychological thriller vs straight up horror?

That’s probably a fair way to describe it although probably not entirely accurate to what it is. Definitely not a traditional straight up Horror
It’s pretty comedic and relatable in a lot of ways so I think she’d probably enjoy it

I'm not a huge movie watcher and don't really pay for any streaming thing other than the normal monthly subscription on a couple services, so I genuinely don't know the answer here. Is it really $20 just to rent a movie now? I've seen on some streaming platforms a movie that you can rent or buy for between like 3 and 10 bucks, but can't recall ever seeing a price so high to not even own.

For the first few weeks they are normally $20. Usually when they release digitally while still in theaters. I would guess it will be $6 by the end of July and streaming for free in September.

Well deserved success.
Either Obsession or Project Hail Mary is probably the best movie of 2026.
And you have to love what Obsession might mean for the industry. An overhaul of the creative process. Big studios with bloated management, CGI, and ballooning budgets have been producing terrible movies.
Obsession shows how the little guys can compete and win. Blockbuster movies don't have to disappear but they should be smaller in number and better made

I would hope, but they tend to take the wrong lessons from these things
Either “well now let’s give the same people 200 times the budget and they return will also be 200X!”
Or “well clearly the success is due to him being a YouTuber/tik tok guy- quick give a blank check to every creator on your instagram feed!”
Then when they underperform go “I guess audiences just don’t want original stories anymore”
