Like I said, there is a difference between influence and perspective
The whole story is basically a bunch of guys whose actions are being watched by the gods like it's their favorite TV show. The primary observer is Athena. That is precisely the 'perspective' that the story is told from. They are the only characters who can see and know everything.

If not, who then? Certainly not Odysseus. How would he know what the gods were thinking and doing? Homer? Then we get to have the same kind of semantic argument about author vs. character perspective.

Nah, Lupita is a retard and there is no reason for you to turn this into a pointless, semantic argument.

Making a comment, having opinions doesn’t equate to being obsessed.

You clearly have problems gauging nuance.

And the odyssey isn’t a kid’s movie, is it?

Respect your elders, kiddo.

Obviously the majority is told from just a narrator, but Odysseus is certainly one of them. Numerous books are through his first person POV.

Telemachus is another. The first portion of the book is his POV.

Penelope some. The Swineherd too.

Ahh so when I actually give an exact percentage it becomes a pointless argument Got it.

Those are characters who are talked about, not POV narrators.

Ok maybe you should read it again. Hell some of the more famous parts of the book Odysseus is narrating his trial and his dealing with Cyclops, Circe, etc. Direct first person account/perspective, not just talked about characters

Yes. Did I say somewhere that it didn't have a narrator/author?

There is only one omniscient character in the book who is constantly commenting on the situation and it's Athena. I don't know what else to tell you.

If you ignore the parts I mentioned, sure.

You are right, it is A translation. Of all the translations out there, this is certainly one of them...

None of the characters you mentioned have an omniscient view of the story and Athena can see everything they do.

Lemme make this easier for you. I don't even need 100%. What percentage of the perspective would you say is from Athena?

If it's more than 0%, Lupita is wrong and you can stop struggling to find a shill angle.

That is correct. I skipped over the omniscient part of that. Why would it have to be omniscient though? Just because Odysseus recounting his POV in the book doesn't change the fact that it is from his POV.

I don't know. She's obviously an important character.

I guess I'm missing something here. How does anything over 0% make it not "Very little"? Is say 5% not very little? Genuinely asking because I guess I'm not following.

And why why not reply all the comments in the post calling her dumb for saying this because she is stating the obvious? Which would be disagreeing with the original tweet. Like this that got 22 upvotes...

quote:

Yeah because the story is about Odysseus and his journey to get back to his family/homeland.

It’s like someone complaining that Saving Private Ryan doesn’t have very much perspective from the First Lady.

Dude, I said you could stop looking for shill angles, not do it more.

Okay, you've got me there. I just re-read and saw she actually said 'very little'

But it's not very little , so it's moot. Lupita is clearly wrong.
