I’m not a big crowder fan but that was an awesome analogy.

quote:For me this is the most fascinating thing about this story. Comedy writers, those cynical lampooners of society's foibles, crying???
Jimmy came back in. “Can I talk to you buddy?” And he said, he was very, very broken up about it, he didn’t want this, he said, “I don’t know what to do.” I said, “You think I shouldn’t do the show.” “People are crying.”
I said, “People are crying.” “Yeah,” he said, “senior producers are crying.” I said, “Good Lord, bring them in and let me talk to them. I didn’t even know I had the capacity to make people cry.
Can you imagine this happening in the '50s on Your Show of Shows?
Carl Reiner walks into the Writer's Room and everyone is in tears. Reiner goes to Mel Tolkin: "What happened Mel?"
"Oh, this week's guest star is Danny Kaye and he said something offensive. Sid Caesar ran from the room in hysterics, Neil Simon rushed to the men's room in tears, and Mel Brooks made an emergency appointment with his psychoanalyst."

frick the 50s. Could you imagine anyone doing that to Letterman? He’d fire their asses immediately, especially if it was Norm. Really, if one of his producers said that about Norm, Letterman (being the a-hole that he is) would go out of his way to make sure they never worked in show business again.
Also Jimmy Fallon, say goodbye to Letterman ever appearing on your show, and I’m willing to bet that during upcoming interviews that he will call you a pussy and an absolute disgrace to the Late Night name and comedy in general. Letterman will disown Fallon for this, especially since he obviously disdained him for years. I thought Letterman hated him beforehand, but this just cemented it. I do within the next few years expect Letterman to go on a similar rant on how Fallon is as big of a pussy as Leno from him.

Remember, this is the show that brought out the female writers - a dubious concept in itself* - to wax idolatrously to Hillary
* NM on WU
Tells joke dissing feminists.
audience (women) boos
Norm: "You're booing? A woman wrote that joke.
"No I'm kidding.
We don't hire women writers."

Norms holocaust bits crack me the frick up

Letterman is a huge leftist but he's also been caught up in the #metoo movement before that was a thing. He does hate NBC too. In this age of Trump I think he'd let his leftist side come through and side with Fallon.

What I find infuriating about the situation, is when Fallon was getting so much flak for having Trump on his show Norm was one of the only people who defended him and said to leave him alone. I guess Jimmy has a short memory.

Letterman doesn’t need Fallon though. I don’t think Letterman likes Colbert either and is resentful of what he’s done to his show. Letterman has a good relationship with Kimmel and Conan, so yeah he’ll go on their shows, but I don’t think he’ll ever go on Fallon and Colbert’s.

Letterman has too much me-too baggage for him to come to anyone's defense. He's also got his touchy-feely show on Netflix which is branding him as the Phil Donahue of streaming.
I'm looking forward to Alec Baldwin's show on ABC. He's got some me-too/abuse baggage himself, but on his preview show he didn't shy away from talking about the subject with his guest.

I loved his frog joke on Howard. It was so elementary and I don’t think anyone else could have made it funny.
I get in a vortex of Norm YouTube videos at least once a month. It’s incredible.
I can’t wait for the Chevy Chase episode. They have very similar styles and neither can be serious.

Watched Norm on The View this morning. Poor guy looked scared to death.
They did their usual thing where they let him explain why he said what he said. He did a good job, but it was painful to see him have to go through that.

Yeah, I’ve listened to it. Norm came across well and sincere, but it was awkward. He definitely regrets the Down syndrome comment more than the Roseanne one.
Posted on 9/13/18 at 3:08 pm to OMLandshark
He's been saying down syndrome instead of retarded for a long time. That wasn't a slip up.

Yeah, that’s how i see it. The funny thing is that Bill Burr says the same shite but he doesn’t get any heat for it. He’s like Teflon
Posted on 9/13/18 at 10:10 pm to SUB
Burr answered that directly when Bill Maher asked him about the PC war on comedy. He said he doesn't have a TV show or advertisers for the mob to go after, so they can't really do anything to him other than. He basically said treat them like hecklers and tell them to shut the frick up.
ETA, here it is on Youtube

That must have been before his cartoon on Netflix.

To do this day I regret not being able to sneak into a NYE event at the Beau Rivage in time to see Norm and Lovitz back in 2002 or so.
When I got there, I heard they were "so bad" they got booed and booted and ended their set early. It was a Mississippi crowd so I assumed I just missed greatness.

Yeah, but he actually does have a show - F is for Family. I've seen the interview. Maybe that was before he had the show.
