True
But the reason for both Dave and Norm not getting their first job choice was their failure to play nice with the executives they could have courted instead of ridiculed.
Some comics are just wired that way and it's arguably part of their appeal - but it can also hold them back from wider commercial success.

Norm is much better as a guest like some others have mentioned
Yeah. I've watched the first few episodes and nothing has really made me want to watch more. They weren't bad, but I didn't enjoy them like I do when he's the guest on a show.

Yeah, it’s why we got Company Men hacks like Fallon and Myers who will do anything their bosses tell them. Letterman and Norm don’t give a single frick.

So far...
Spade: Nothing special, but fun.
Barrymore: Some good stuff.
Judge Judy: Norm behaving, but still entertaining.
Letterman: Greatness.
Jane Fonda: Much better than expected. Nice to see Norm hit on an 80 year old woman.

The Spade one is the best one
He absolutely fricks with Spade in every way imaginable. The whole deal about Norm going to the Comedy Club to do a set with another comedian, knowing Spade lives nearby and wants to do a set with Norm, is gold.

Letterman is the shining example of a comedian who started to take himself too seriously. The young Dave was somewhat of a maverick. The old Dave was someone intoxicated with his own success and thought people really cared what he had to offer as social commentary. Also, the more people got to see the real behind the scenes Dave they realized he was basically a miserable old man.

I think I like this show, but it's so weird. I kind of wish Norm would actually interview his guests rather than just interrupt and segue. But, maybe that's what the show is supposed to be.

A reminder that Norm taped all of these interviews prior to his run-in with the #metoo movement. So, while he did make his apologies, they didn't have time to re-interview these people or re-edit the entire series.

Thought Spade's interview was the funniest one. Chevy Chase was alot better than I thought he'd be. Keaton was good. Letterman was pretty good too - he is still sharp (both he and Norm are very smart guys) but kinda too self-important. The Barrymore one looked like they were having fun - Drew seems to be a cool mom/person. Judge Judy was . . . ya know, I tried to watch it but I kept asking myself, "Why is she being interviewed again?"

Keaton and Fonda, were the best imo. Norm asking Fonda if she believes in the hypostatic Jesus was pretty hard hitting.
