quote:Might not have the time. Ratings aren't great and even though a second season was ordered, with the high budget, there could be a lot of changes in store for season 2 if they don't cancel season 2.
I'm not crowning it as GOAT yet, FWIW.
$100,000,000 for the season and less than 800k viewers last week isn't going to cut it for long.

Didn't get to watch last night's episode yet, but I thought last week's was very well done. Characters were hitting their stride.

Someone pointed out in a blog last night that everyone is pretty much always mad at everyone else. Thats pretty accurate. That being said it doesnt suck as much as I anticipated after episodes 2 and 3. Loved Lou doing White Light to close out last night.

I wanted to love this. I'm not loving this. I'm kinda sorta liking it.

Same here. Its pedestrian and there is no reason it should be. It actually aggravates me.

I think the show has been pretty damn entertaining so far. Bobby Cannavale has been a strong lead IMO...

I was the first to admit I was disappointed after the debut, however I think it's really become a good show. I really like the characters. Carnivale is killing it

It's not my favorite show, but I do like it. Solid B+ so far.

Yeah - and I'm frustrated with it, too. It definitely has flashes. I think it will settle down. I'm sucker for the 1970s music scene, anyway. I like it, but I'm frustrated that either I should like it more or it should be better.
I will say that I had high expectations for the show - so that says something when it can get in the neighborhood of an A with those high expectations coming in. Compared to, say, The Leftovers, which I had no expectations but was merely intrigued.
It is what it is. Something to watch on Sunday nights between football season and GoT, right? The music is definitely part of the attraction.

Agreed with the frustration. I gave it a good grade because I like the genre and the acting is solid, but there is something missing with the cohesion of the story that makes me downgrade it a bit. I understand the points of the people who don't like it.

I may even go a little better - this has all the underpinnings of the great HBO shows - sets, music, a range of interesting characters (a little cliche, but they all have to have stereotypical characters from which to work - "I graduated from fricking Yale."), extremely high production values - on par with any film you can name, so forth and so on.
But up until now - it's missing a certain intangible element. I can't put my finger on it - my best guess - at least trying to read the creators' intentions, is that Cannavale is supposed to pick up the show and run with it at some point. I just don't think that switch has been flipped yet. Or maybe Marty let off the rudder too early, and it's foundering a bit.
Just can't quite nail down what it's missing - I'll know it when I see it.

It's all sizzle and no steak.

Last week's episode was horrible. Thus week was a bit better.
Still believe how far HBO has fallen.

I love this show. The more people nitpick it like they're trying to win some kind of persnickety of the year contest, the more I love it.

I don't know if anybody has mentioned it yet but Olivia Wilde's stock went up about 5000% on last night's episode.
Holy crap that chick is hotter than two rats fricking in a wool sock!
If I ever see Jason Sudeikis in person I'm gonna kick him square in the nuts just on principle.

would be better if it was about Juno Temple's character and not Bobby Carnivale. The Richie character is just too much to build a series around. His coke snorting raving lunatic routine is over the top.
Juno Temple playing a young woman trying to make it in A&R in the 70s is intriguing. Add in that she is French and rich just adds to the story.

I've been watching this show from the beginning and so far, it's a good show, not great. Production is great, acting is great, music is phenomenal, story is decent but the characters are kind of meh and unlikable.
It feels a lot like if American Hustle the movie was a television series.
At the end of the episode, I'm entertained. That's all that matters.
