At some point people are going to realize that none of these live action remakes will match the magic of the originals. They're going to keep making them. Just get used to seeing decent films that are entertaining but not close to the levels of the animated features.

You'll see it on cable or the Disney app and think, eh, it was okay I guess. Just like The NEW Jungle Book, The NEW Beauty and the Beast, etc., etc.

Really don’t know why they didn’t just go with Keegan Michael Key as Genie. Think he fits that role better than Smith.

I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt though. I won’t write him off just yet. They do need to fix the CGI though. Woof

Aladdin is my all time favorite Disney animated movie, so this is mixed emotions for me

It’s an impossible task for someone to take over for Robin Williams, but man i don’t like the look of Will Smith

Is George Lucas a consultant or something?

Will Smith is pretty much box office poison. I was really disappointed when I heard that he was cast as the genie. There was a whole bunch of SJW backlash because Disney cast a Canadian man and a British woman as the leads (despite both being of Middle Eastern descent), but nobody said a word when a black man was cast as the genie. This just looks bad from what I’ve seen so far.

Jafar looks very weak, at least in that scene.

Why didn't they just make him person sized for frick sake? He looks ridiculous. Why even paint him? Jesus Christ this is so bad looking.

Will Smith. What an awful fricking choice as a genie. Poor Robin Williams rolling in his fricking grave.

Aladdin and especially Jarfar were miscast. Jafar needs to be older and skinnier.

At first I was like... "Pfffttt" but then I thought about it and you are probably right.

I don’t necessarily know that it was the cgi that was the worst part with that short of a clip, but I do know that it did not at all feel like the genie. Robin Williams’ voice is just too perfect for that role, hearing Will Smith try to pull it off felt exceedingly empty.
It's hard to follow Robin Williams.

Since he's going to be CGI'd anyway...
I listened to Williams in a few different roles, and tried to think of someone with the same inflections and speaking. Not necessarily in full manic mode, but just as an actor. I realized... Peter Dinklage.

Before you scoff, go listen to him in some of Tyrion's better scenes. Listen to the voice, the tone, the way he emphasizes certain words. Very similar to some of Williams' more sedate roles. I'd be curious to see if he could crank it up a few notches (maybe wire him out on something )

I just don’t know about Will Smith in that role.

I don't know about anybody in that role as a live action character. Will Smith could definitely pull it off animated, but thatg's such a hard character to play and film IRL. Just think about how bad Robin Williams would have been as live action Genie.

When, and how did this happen? He was one of the biggest stars in the world. Was it all due to after earth?

It didn't happen. Will Smith is still fine and most people like him but he's definitely past his prime. He was great in Bright on Netflix and was one of the only decent things about Suicide Squad. I Am Legend was definitely the curtain call for his prime tho. He hasn't had anything like that since.
